Review. I ate at Matt's last night for the second time and have been sadly disappointed both times. I ordered the 'special plate', two crispy tacos, beef enchilada, rice & beans. The menu advertises that the tacos come with lettuce, tomatos and mixed cheeses. Well when my plate arrived, I noticed that the tacos did not have cheese on them so I asked my server for cheese. He looked at me like I was crazy but after about 10 minutes he finally remembered to bring me a side of cheese. It was the cheese that comes out of a bag...and not real, actual cheese. The enchilada was so so but the rice and beans were a tad too salty. It was certainly nothing like mama makes. I will not be going back.
very disappointed. We live in Lakewood, so had heard about this restaurant as a local favorite, however we were sorely disappointed when we dined there. After waiting over 30 min for a table, we were seated upstairs (where there is no atmosphere). The chips were greasy and the food was overall very disappointing. Will not return.
YUM!. Love this food! Talk about delicioso! And, the staff is always great!
Used to be good.
Anyone who would call Matt a scam artist clearly doesn't know their history. He was on various cooking shows (pre-food network) and was a published author. He was a local celebrity and his family has been in the business for many years. Me and my family had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife years ago. And my family have been eating at Matt's before it's current location. All I can say is that the place declined when it's creator and owner declined and let loose control.
The food was excellent in the past and I can honestly say it isn't what it used to be, my family and I have been saying that for years. Still favorable to hack Dallas tex mex places that will go unnamed. And still a great spot for Lakewood. Hopefully someone will take control and restore Matt's food to its former glory.
OMG!!!! This is not Tex Mex. Matt was a wonderful man god rest his soul but the man was a scam artist and could not cook his way out of a paper bag. This food is easiuly the worst mexican food ever. I have seriously had better Mexican TV dinners.
Not traditional. I have heard mixed reviews about this place, and I was very disappointed when we ate there today. My mother ordered a "Chile Relleno"..and its basically a stuffed poblano pepper with cheese. It's was half a poblano pepper topped with cheddar cheese...this was no chile relleno...
Average food with bad service.
They delivered our food to the wrong couple (2 people out of a group of 8) and this couple had ordered something completely different then what they were given. When they brought the rest of the food to the group (who ordered after us) they gave them all their food except a plate that was supposed to go to the couple that got ours. They took that plate back and probably threw it away. We got our food after waiting another 20 minutes.
They never apologized and acted like nothing was wrong. Our drinks were always empty. The food was average. Could have got the same at a $2.00 buffet. We will never eat there again.
It was funny that the people who got our food ate it even though we heard them talk about that they did not order the item.
Interesting dining experience.. Food was flavorful, plentiful and very, very good. Service was average (somewhat slow with refills and extra napkins) but the restaurant was extremely busy, so I'll cut them a little slack on that. Our only criticism: the indoor dining area has the acoustics of a 19th century lunatic asylum. My husband and I both left with headaches!
Do not visit the Cedar Hill Location!. We waited 1 hour for our food and it was not even worth it. They had issues in the kitchen. The beans were disgusting and so were the tamales. The cheese enchiladas were not tasteful. The salsa was not spicey at all. Clearly the "CHEF" of this establishment has a way to go perhaps out the door.........hopefully. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They did not even have homemade tortillas. For an upscale Mall in UPTOWN VILLAGE, THIS PLACE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE THERE.
Keep Turning Us Away. On the Grand Opening date at the Cedar Hill location we were turned away, we were told that the computer wasn't working properly and that they would only take people who were on the waiting list. We returned again last night and we were told that they were closing at 9:00p.m. and because the wait was 45mins they were not adding people to the waiting list. Matt's has this temporary attitude because the other restaurants scheduled to be in Uptown Village aren't open yet. Step up your game or allow another restaurant who will be open with working computers to take over the lease.
