One of our favorite restaurants in Dallas... – My fiance and I LOVE this restaurant. Our first visit was several years ago on Valentine's Day; the service, specials, drinks, wine, food - everything was perfect! My fiance had the duck special, and I had the filet with chef's toppings. Wowza, this food was good. Several years later, we are still regulars, and even though the menu is seasonal and changes often, there are a few staples that we love: to start, the bread with dipping oil is so yummy, I think I could make a meal out of just that! For appetizers, the crab portobello mushrooms and calamari are fabulous; for the main course if you order any of the chicken dishes they are superb; the filet is always good; the sauteed spinach is just heavenly; deserts are awesome (cherry chocolate one is my fav); and drinks are made well. We usually get a bottle of wine b/c the wines by the glass are overpriced; however, even when we get mixed drinks, they make them well. The service has ALWAYS been excellent for us; we always have very attentive waitstaff and bussers, and have always been seated promptly. I do recommend reservations. Overall, this restaurant has its own "flavor" that we just can't find anywhere else. The atmosphere is beautiful and romantic. We love, love, love, Ferre and will continue to go for many years.

Wonderful food, not so wonderful waitress. – From reviews, my friend & I were not expecting great service. The place is hard to find. We made online reservations for 830, arrived 815 & were seated right away. The hostess was very nice but we didn't get a good waitress. She was unhappy. She asked us what we wanted to drink right away. Once I answered what I wanted, she never asked my friend what she'd like. I said bottled water. Then she asked do you want bottled water or tap water? Before I could answer she said in a quick & quite tone bubbly or not bubbly. My friend couldn't even hear what she was saying. Once I said not bubbly, she ran off quickly. It took 10mins for us to get our water, & a bus boy who brought it. Everything that our waitress did was very fast & quick & we didn't know what was going on. But, the bus boy was wonderful. He came promptly after we'd finished with our Bruschetta & got us new plates. He refilled our water every time it got low. The waitress didnt give us our check until 25mins after we asked for it. She didnt pick up the card for another 15mins after the card was visibly there. It's sad that we had to tip her instead of the bus boy. The food was wonderful. I got the Pizza Margherita . My friend got the Spaghettini Pomodoro. We also got the Bruschetta to start. I didn't like the Bruschetta very much because it had halved baby tomatoes instead of thin slices, & the bread was heavily toasted. My Pizza Margherita was superb, probably the best pizza I have ever eaten. Its flavorful. Its a lot of pizza, could feed two woman. My favorite was the Spaghettini Pomodoro. Its by far the best pasta Ive ever had. The sauce was the best. When I put it in my mouth, my taste buds went crazy. The sauce is light, but powerful. It has a lemon zing to it. Delicious. Id go back to this restaurant. We both had enough food to take home & eat the next day. It cost $20 a piece. If you're picky on service, I wouldnt suggest it. We got good service from the hostess & bus boy, but our waitress was horrid.

Great Service - Wonderful food – We were seated right away and given our choice of tables. The waiter got our drink order immediately and made suggestions for appetizers. I was able to make a substitution on my dinner and the food was very, very good. We ordered the Smoked Chicken Nicchi, Penne Ferre' and the Ravioli di Formaggio. All of which were prepared and served hot with wonderful flavors. The MangoTini that the waiter suggested was fabulous. The only minor complaint I would normally make is one of our party ordered a glass of white zinfandel wine and was told they don't serve it. So the waiter suggest a glass of red. We did not realize how expensive the wine by the glass would be at $14 per glass. This was a little surprising, but overall, I give this restaurant great marks on service, selection, taste and friendliness. We will definetely return.

Disastrous!!! – Horrible service..awful..there?s just no nicer way to put it & still be truthful. We were still awaiting our drink order to be taken after 15 min...& then there was an extremely long wait even then for those drinks to be delivered. Bruschetta was soggy & had to be salted to get any flavor. Entrees..Penne Ferre was passable. Chicken Romano was bland & lukewarm. Veal Carciofi was lukewarm as well & tasted like the chef had used an entire bottle of lemon juice on it?maybe to try to counteract the tough meat! Tortelloni Amorosa was a failure too?the Bolognese sauce was cold & had to be covered with salt & red pepper for any flavor. Back to the service?our waiter didn?t stop at being just plain bad, he even went on to being just plain rude & totally unhelpful. Whenever we needed anything, we literally had to flag him down & then were met with what might as well have been a roll of his eyes. When drink glasses were empty, never were we offered another. Long waits were the norm throughout the meal. But the real kicker came when we asked a simple question about the supposed Tortelloni??Sir, isn?t this Ravioli?? upon looking at the large squares on the plate. (last time I checked Tortellini was a ring-shaped pasta) As our completely uninformed & utterly rude waiter was asked this question, he not only kept his distance of standing 2 tables away, but also continued walking away while ?answering? our question. As he literally shrugged his shoulders, he simply said (I kid you not), ?I don?t know?that?s just the way we serve it?, & kept on walking. Dumbfounded by his total impoliteness..we actually all laughed in disbelief. The poor svc was even harder to take given this was on a night when the restaurant was 1/2 empty. I couldn?t even chalk up his lack of attention to a packed house?no, it was just the opposite?it was a slow night when he had nothing but time on his hands. I certainly would hate to see what the service is like when the place is crowded & waiters are swamped.

Appalling Service – My fiance and I attended the restaurant on New Year's Eve. While she was in the bathroom the bartender tried to give me her number and made belittling remarks of my fiance and our relationship. I was shocked and insulted that someone could have such little class as to ruin our New Year's Eve. I would never visit the restaurant again.... especially if you are trying to have a romantic evening.

too expensive for what it was – I liked the food, but I didn't think it was quite worth the expense. Perhaps I went on too casual an outing (dinner with a big group); it might be nicer for a romantic dinner.

Good for drinking wine - Bad for eating food. – I usually don't write reviews but I was shocked to see that Ferre got a 9.8 rating. My fiance and I went to have dinner. The restaurant was not extremely busy but we still waited a very long time to even get waters. The wine was great and the waiter was very helpful in choosing it. The problem was the food. I had the Fettucini e Gamberi (pasta with crabmeat and shrimp). The shrimp were tiny "popcorn" type shrimp that tasted frozen. The crabmeat was good, so I ate that, but I left everything else alone. My fiance had the tagliatelle alla Bolognese which was runny and not tasty at all. We left the restaurant and made food at home because neither of us ate. I would not recommend the food, at all. It is a neat place to have a glass of wine.

Warm Tuscan lighting and simple but enchanting northern Italian fare make this a lovely restaurant in West Village. – The Scene
Half Tuscan villa, half cutting-edge loft, Ferre combines the colors of an Italian wheat field with the glass, leather and gloss of a New York cafeteria. Industrial lights hang from the ceiling in the high-concept bar area, which showcases extensive wines and cocktails on well-lit, open glass shelves. Translucent glass partitions, sleek mirrors and individually lit artwork showcase the blond-wood tables.

The Food
Carpaccio is paper-thin beef with arugula, parmigiano and a spike of mustard aioli. Bruschetta eschews traditional mozzarella for a drier and tastier ricotta salata. Lightly fried, spicy calamari is outstanding. Stone-fire pizza margherita comes very close to the perfection of pizza in Italy itself. Gnocchi with bolognese sauce is tender without being mushy. Outstanding Vitello Milanese presents tender, lightly breaded veal with peppery arugula and lemon. Pollo Caprino takes a perfectly roasted chicken and stuffs it with creamy, herbed goat cheese in rich marsala sauce.

YUM! – Try the calamari and bruschetta for appetizers. If you like seafood and spicy foods, the linguine pirate is delicious!

A stand-out in Dallas dining – Parking on a weekend can be tough in West Village, but once in, the dining experience is top notch. The only negatives are the noise level and the wait for a table on a weekend. I've been here many times and the food is always magnifico. The spicy seafood stew is outstanding which is served with an incredibly light, black linguine. An excellent wine list with prices from inexpensive to up-there. Staff is friendly, efficient and helpful. It can get pricey with wine, but those on a budget can find something on the menu. In my top 5 favorite places in Dallas. A great date or celebration spot.
