The Scene – The vibe is formal, but not pretentious. Tall oil portraits hang above upholstered booths and brass fixtures. Other walls are a taxidermist's dream; a large bronzed eagle separates the kitchen from diners at mahogany tables, and clocks above the kitchen note the times in London, New York and other cities. – – The Food – The food is flawless, whether it be a simple tomato and sweet onion salad or filet mignon. Several chef favorites were added in 2005, including Kona crusted dry aged sirloin with caramelized shallot butter, porcini rub delmonico with…

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Don't miss the chocolate hazelnut cake, a three-layer event whose chocolate and nut flavors merge beautifully. The trademark Key lime pie is as tall as your hand.
What to Drink:
The breadth and depth of the wine list dazzles. Half bottles and wines by the glass are offered. Waiters are knowledgable and helpful.
Look Good:
Want to throw a major shindig? Inquire about private dining in the wine room for parties of up to 46.
The Extras:
Take a look at the chef's daily specials for additional culinary highlights.

hit or miss but mostly a HIT!

My first 2 visits: Outstanding and put CG at the top of my big D steakhouse list with outstanding service, yummy and very strong house pinapple martinis, and scrumptious mouth watering filet mignon...

3rd visit: not as impressed: Service slow and not as friendly, wrong appetizer brought out the first time, but they made up for it with an excellent crab topped steak and surprise desert courtesy of the chef which definitely made up for the earlier slip up!!

Definitely worth a try if you haven't been!

Outstanding Service.......Dry Steak

by livininplano at Citysearch

Went here for my wife's birthday on March 7th. The service is outstanding and the appetizer also was great. However, the steak really disappointed me. It was a very dry 10oz Fillet. Maybe their other cuts are better, but it just did not match up to a Bob's or Del Friscos.

I really wanted to like this place because the experience is great. But, I would not recommend this restaurant if you want a top notch fillet.

Horrific Service

by rkelley4 at Citysearch

My husband and I recently attempted to have a nice date night at the Capital Grille. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 8:00 PM reservation on a Saturday evening, checked in with the host, and proceeded to wait nearly one hour for our table. We let him know we would be in the bar, so that he could easily let us know when our table was ready. ONE HOUR later we had not yet been seated. My husband had to check with the host several times regarding when our table might be ready, and only after waiting 30 minutes past our start time did anyone proactively approach us to apologize for the delay. I understand that Saturday is a busy night for any restaurant, but I've had better service at Chili's! We were finally seated and whisked through the main dining rooms, past several prime open tables, only to be placed in the corner of a dark back room with no other guests. At that point we decided that our business was obviously not appreciated, and we decided to leave. While the Manager did apologize profusely to my husband, we decided to take our business elsewhere. I will say that I have had wonderful dining experiences at the Kansas City and Houston Capital Grille, but it seems that the Dallas Capital Grille is not up to par.

  • Pros: Good reputation
  • Cons: Very poor service
