Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q

Welcome to "Feel Good Bar-B-Q"

  • Smoked slow, served fast
  • Takeout and Catering
  • Order barbecue sauces

At Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q, you'll always enjoy authentic Southern barbecue at its best--always tender, always juicy. Over the years, Sonny's has added specialties, such as sweet and smoky barbecue ribs, hand-pulled pork and tender fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs. Sonny's barbecue is prepared the old-fashioned way with a hardwood smoker then served up fast and friendly just like the old days.

But great barbecue isn't the only reason folks stop by. You'll also find a relaxed atmosphere and a warm smile every time you come in. We've been pleasing customers since 1968 and perhaps that's why we're America's largest barbecue chain with more than 150 restaurants operating in nine Southeastern states. Whether dining in, ordering takeout or letting us cater your next event, one thing's for sure--we're going to make you feel good!

Editorial Review for Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q – by Sara Levy

In Short
Owner Sonny Tillman has been serving the same Southern barbecue and fixings since 1968. A common roadside stop, Sonny's offers low prices and barbecue; roomy booths, wagon-wheel chandeliers and homey craft art are the standard dining room decor. House barbecue sauce, available sweet, regular or hot, spices up large helpings of smoked beef, pork, chicken, turkey and ribs. Sides like fresh fried okra, onion rings and barbecue beans complement the entrees.

It's now 2008 and this Sonny's is probably the best in ATL. The GM really cares about the quality of food and takes a personal interest in every order. Their baby backs are second to none. I spent 25 years in food service management and I would highly recommend this particular Sonny's.

Pros: Great baby backs and side dishes as well

Cons: Occasionally slow service but generally good

The food was the nastiest food I've had in a while. It was totally greasy, including the garlic bread, which sat in a puddle in the styrofoam container. The ribs (also extremely greasy) were so overcooked, they were black and hard, and my dog would not/could not eat them. In terms of value - what a rip! I paid $7.05 for 3 ribs, 2 pieces of bread, a tiny condiment-size cup of cole slaw, and a potato. Literally, the only edible part was the potato, even though it too, was overcooked.

Pros: Fast

Cons: Disgusting, Horrible, Rip-Off
