Father's Advocate or Billable Hours?.
Let me explain why I petitioned for a modification to begin with. The order was that I had my 3mo old son the 1st,3rd,5th weekend beginning on Friday & every Thursday, with gradual overnights over the 1st four months(8/2009). So, with my child's mother being in Grad School & then starting her career as a Tax Accountant I had my son on average 75%-90% of the time. I bought his clothes, food, toys, snacks, diapers, etc. for my home in addition to child support & medical coverage. I would ask his mother if she would agree to a reduction in the child support amount & consider giving me guaranteed days in lieu of having increased time with my son based on her work schedule.
Mr. Gordon, in my opinion, is an opportunist. I was shocked because of his volunteering at Fathers For Equal Rights Dallas. Mr. Gordon represented the mother of my child after I petitioned for a modification of our original order; that alone is understandable he's open for business & my child's mother is a good person. My child's mother & I simply had differing opinions about what was fair.
I had always assumed that attorneys take their cue from their clients. The attorney I had for the first go round was instructed that I would not handle the matter in an adversarial manner; although the mother of my child thought it only fit for me to see my son every other weekend with no over nights. So, although she had no attorney I did not want to pursue the matter in a me vs. you way; it's always been about my son for me.
Mr. Gordon's first act was to reschedule the scheduled court date further in the year, seems Mr. Gordon was taking a "trip?"; ironically enough when he rescheduled the date he made his client the petitioner & me the respondent.
Later I was served with interrogatories, disclosures, & production requests which I completed & returned within the specified 30 days. I in turn made my own requests to both Mr. Gordon & my child's mother; I didn't get a response until my 3rd call stating I was considering a motion to compel with punitive damages on day 65.
Court ordered mediation went like this, me in a room waiting to see if any attempt to mediate would be made just to be told 3 hours later by the arbitrators that the other party refused to make or accept any offer. Fast forward to the day of court, Mr. Gordon walks over to me, sits down & asks if we could settle this thing (wow really...being sarcastic), I say I've been trying to do that for the past 8 months but you & your client have refused to speak with me or even acknowledge me as a person. He states that I am being unreasonable & I'm trying to take advantage of his client because she's followed the letter of our agreement in which I had my previous attorney enter in a clause for right of first refusal, a clause I'm sure Mr. Gordon has requested thousands of times for his male clients. So, because she was legally required to notify me when she couldn't be with our child & I never declined I was somehow wrong to ask the court to consider the amount of time my son was in my possession when considering to change the order to give me more guaranteed time & to modify the child support order. Then he proceeds to tell me that I should consider myself lucky to have extended visitation for my son with overnights because if he was her attorney two years prior he would have never let her agree to that (I guess my son didn't or doesn't deserve to spend time with me).
I asked Mr. Gordon what his client was offering, he had to go ask her I guess they've never discussed a compromise up to that point, they offered me Tuesday's until 5pm. I told him we'll let the jury decide; just to discover that when he rescheduled the trial date & made his client the petitioner he also changed my jury request to a bench case. I asked how that happened Mr. Gordon explained to the court that for matters such as these it was not required to be a jury trial. So we proceeded with the trial.
Daryl Gordon Can Help Get Your Kids. Daryl Gordon was instrumental in getting custody of my kids. He and his team of professionals left no stone unturned. The cost of fighting for your rights is not cheap. If it was easy I would have done it myself. After reading Dallasman2010's review I was compelled to write an honest review about Daryl and his staff. The process is slow when a mother is fighting back, but in the end The Law Office of Daryl Gordon gets the job done. I would highly recomend his firm to anyone who needs help with a custody situation. Karen was on top of everything that was going on with my case and Erin was as sweet as she could be when calling for a payment. I have always been a father to my children no matter who has custody. I would strongly suggest that Dallasman2010 stop blaming Daryl and be a father.
Daryl Gordon really cares about the kids.. We were at our whitts end, when we met Daryl at Fathers for Equal Rights. The one thing that I really liked about Daryl, is that he really cares about the kids and what is best for them. Daryl and his staff were great. They listened. As far as his fees, as long as we worked with him, he worked with us...He itemized, and was able to show us where our money was going. I would and have recommended Daryl to my family and friends.
Divorce in Dallas County.
Unfortunately it took a long time to finalize my divorce. During that time, everyone at Mr. Gordon’s office was great to work with to get everything resolved. I relied heavy on their team and they always had a quick response as new situations occurred. Karen was the always on top of everything and did a fantastic job.
I wish the cost could have been less, but keep in mind that every case is different depending on how much time they have to spend. They provided itemized bills showing where every dollar was spent.
By the time everything was done, I was able to keep the house and had custody of my son. If I had to do it again, I would definitely call Daryl.
Best Family / Child Custody Lawyer in Plano and area.
I had lost custody of my son with one lawyer, then another drained me of thousands in just days. Finally I found Daryl as he was volunteering at Father's for equal rights. He gave me some great free advice and had reasonable rates, so he became lawyer.
My ex was unstable, bi-polar, but had unlmited backing from her family for the legal battle. With only reasonable rates Daryl leveled the playing field and brought the important facts to light. In our first trial I got custody back! Within a year I had sole custody. My goal was never to deny my ex her rights or time with my son, but protect my son from a very unstable person. Daryl enabled me to protect my son.
One thing, even though I met Daryl at a father's for equal rights event, I'm sure he'd be a great lawyer for a mother too. Unlike a lot of lawyers who seem motivated just by money, I think Daryl is motivated to help people who need it and help their kids.
Best Father's Rights Laawyer in the Dallas area IMHO.
It is uncanny how such a low key, nice guy, type of lawyer can be so dominant in a court room setting (father hired for family law case) but Daryl took an almost impossible situation and turned it around with a few well chosen papers and a few gentle spoken words. Although he appeared to listen to the ex wife's concerns, he was still able to see the truth (scared me for a minute as the first lawyer I hired ripped me off). My ex threw every accusation including the child abuser accusation at me and Daryl was unfazed.
To say it in a few words is hard but the bottom line is that he was fair priced and I walked away with my mother abused kids both times she tried to file on me. She doesn't like to pay child support and the second trial was to get out of paying child support as well as disrespect me in every way...Daryl is an awesome person and an awesome attorney....My hat is off to this man...and just for reference, although Daryl is black and I am a fat old white disabled veteran white man, never did I get a negative look nor any negative words or prejudiced attitudes. Daryl is not prejuidced at all! Great guy! Hire him first! Donald
