Editorial Review for Hattie's Restaurant – by Holly Hickman
The Scene
White-on-white modernism meets elegant colonialism in this cool, airy find. A sitting room of white leather chairs welcomes patrons, as does a clay bust of "General Hattie" above the old-fashioned bar. Inside, white leather chairs and white tablecloths offset walnut table legs. A beautiful wooden cabinet displays porcelain pots, silver flasks and crystal glasses. Even the embossed ceiling is stunning.
The Food
Heavy silverware and porcelain plates enhance the experience. Hattie's beautiful, smoky tomato bisque, served in a white coffee mug, comes with an outstanding grilled cheese mini-toast. A stellar fried-chicken salad showcases the lemony chicken batter and field greens, avocado, tomatoes, bacon and tangy buttermilk dressing. Soggy bread detracts only slightly from a fantastic pulled pork po'boy. It comes with scrumptious sweet-potato fries dusted with sea salt. A grilled pork chop showcases a thyme-apple-walnut stuffing and onion gravy. Fried fruit pie with homemade roasted coconut ice cream excels.

This place is a wonderful place for a business lunch. Walking in you realize how bright and open the restaurant is. It is decked out with white everywhere and yellow flowers accenting spaces here and there. The bar area is separated from the restaurant by an open doorway where the host greets you. This day the host was a tall gentlemen who was not so friendly but he was effiecient. When we were seated we were promptly served water and wonderful sourdough bread by the slice. Orders were taken where I chose the chicken salad sandwich and sweet potato fries. The sandwich was delicious, sweet, well seasoned and no over done with mayo. The sweet potato fries were the best I've had. Sweet potato fries are difficult to cook and get crispy, but they got it. The menu had good selection and was well priced. Two people could get out for less than $20. A great meal and okay service. I'm looking forward to going back for dinner.
Pros: Food, Ambiance, Value
Cons: Service, Parking

Hatties is my favorite restaurant ever! My idea of the perfect meal is the tomato basil soup with grilled cheese wedges, fried green tomatoes, then off to the delectible pecan crusted catfish. Then it is on to desert with the amazing bread pudding. The atmosphere is simply elegant and very inviting. The service is wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or anytime you just want the best dinning experience of your life. I'll be there soon, you can count on it!
