Editorial Review for Dragonfly – by Amanda Howe

The Scene
Draped red, gold, green and blue silks create an exotic Moroccan feel. A long black leather- and velvet-upholstered booth separates the bar area from the dining room. Diners look out across the hotel's pool, which becomes a nightlife hub for the Dallas jet set after sundown.

The Food
The appetizer crab-mascarpone cannelloni is a creamy blend of cheese, tomato puree and crab wrapped in pasta. For entrees, a chicken or lamb Moroccan tagine served in a red clay bowl is popular; tender lamb cubes are mixed with couscous, grilled vegetables, almond slivers and cinnamon. The roast pheasant and foie gras served over sauteed chard and figs and garnished with a fresh rosemary sprig is cooked to perfection. For dessert, chocolate lovers will appreciate the warm chocolate cake served a la mode and garnished with rum-soaked bananas; pair it with a glass of Sauternes.

The first time I dined at Dragonfly it was an exciting place to be on the weekend the beautiful hostesses opened the door for me and greeted me with smiles that made my night. The second time I went to Dragonfly the hostesses were dressed strangely in a black toga looking outfit (not appropriate for the thyme of the restaurant) and it led me to believe it was an Asian restaurant (even though its not) but they were helpful and at least had beautiful faces. The servers were very knowledgeable and made the dining experience wonderful again. It was hard to get a hold of a manager to discuss an event I wanted held at Dragonfly and it became frustrating and I decided against having my party there. Other than that I would recommend small groups dining there for a good time. Just don’t expect to get help from a manager.

Our party of five had dinner at Dragonfly last night I have to admit that we we worried, after reading some of the not-so-flattering reviews on CitySearch.... Our experience, however, was definitely worthy of five gold stars! We had reservations at 7pm, and the friendly valet pointed us in the right direction. The Hotel ZaZa is a feast for the eyes! Our table was in a room ringed by curtains, which made for a very quiet, intimate, cosy setting. We were served promptly. The food was outstanding! There was a foie gras starter special, which we ordered. I can easily say that we have never had such foie gras before, even at Abacus. The food, the wine, was excellent. All in all, a wonderful experience, and definitely much, much better than the other "reviews" would lead you to believe. We eat out at the top Dallas restaurants often (at least one a week), and DragonFly is definitely on our "return" list!
