Editorial Review for Jasper's – by Jeff Speicher
The Scene
This is a spacious loft-style restaurant done in an indoor-meets-outdoor, metal-meets-wood contemporary East Asian style. Four dining areas and a long bar are separated by draped partitions and sharp, black angles. Murals of bamboo plants and shoots adorn walls while stained concrete floors and Cubist earth-toned carpets sprawl throughout the L-shaped room. Diners enjoy the service of an attentive, knowledgeable waitstaff.
The Food
For impatient diners, the signature Maytag blue-cheese potato chips are a wise starter. Top entrees include the hickory grilled Black Angus filet: a tender cut artfully sliced and supported by a tall mound of whipped mashed potatoes. A steak knife slides effortlessly through the Texas peach-barbecued pork tenderloins, which are served with an unusually tasty side of cream corn in bourbon sauce. Pan-seared salmon perpared with a creamy mascarpone polenta tops the seafood offerings. For sweet-tooths, dinner isn't complete until the delightful Butterfinger creme brulee makes its way around the table.

The food at Jaspers is definitely worth the visit. I love their burgers-- I know it sounds crazy to order a burger at such a nice place but they are fantastic. They are expensive for hamburgers but I am telling you they are so worth it. They have one with jack daniel marinated onions on top. I have been to Jasper's several times and I have never had a problem with the service. However, I have always been at lunch time. Perhaps their night time service is worse. Please disregard these negative reviews at least once to try the food. Everything I have ever tasted is wonderful. And the atmosphere is great and really trendy. The portions are large also.
Pros: great food, ambience

I was a little wary of trying this place because I’d heard that the service was somewhat lacking, but several people I know kept going on and on about how great the food was, so I decided it was worth the risk. My friend and I had a reservation for 8:15 on Friday, and arrived about 5 minutes early. The hostess was extremely rude and informed us that we were early and would have to wait for about “15 to 20 minutes”. So of course I was thinking to myself, “so far this is not looking good.” We decided to just wait in the entry way rather than fight the crowd at the bar, so we stood there and watched the hostesses seat several people who walked in after us (maybe they had earlier reservations? I don’t know). My friend said that the hostess kept giving me dirty looks when I wasn’t looking at her, so he was getting pretty irritated. Finally, at about 8:30 a gentleman whom I’m assuming is the manager approached us and apologized profusely for our wait. He then escorted us back to a lovely table by the fireplace and told us to let him know if there was anything he could do to make our meal more enjoyable. This really impressed me because it appeared that he just sensed that we weren’t happy; we never actually complained. Our waiter arrived and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He helped us select an appetizer and wine, and returned very quickly with both. Throughout the meal, he was incredibly attentive. The food – all of it – was incredible! We started with the calamari, which was absolutely perfect. The menu is really varied and very creative. I had the Jasper’s Green salad and the peach pork tenderloin with baked potato salad. I wasn’t nearly able to finish everything, but I wish that I could have because it was wonderful. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. Just be prepared to deal with some attitude from the girls at the front. Besides that, it was a great experience and I will certainly be going back!
Pros: Creative menu, excellent food
Cons: Rude hostesses
