Editorial Review for Burger House – by Jeff Speicher

In Short
Since 1951, the Burger House has had a steady stream of customers who can't get enough of the inexpensive one-of-a-kind hamburger. Highland Park and SMU students fill the worn, aged picnic tables on the concrete slab dining area, negotiating the bulbous "double-double" with cheese and award-winning garlic fries. Regulars sit inside eating chili-cheese dogs with a chocolate shake at the cozy soda fountain-style counter. The grilled chicken breast sandwich is a nice, lighter alternative.

Given the area that surrounds Burger House, it has not lost it identity and everyone is treated the same when you walk in. If you are wanting to some really good fries with an awsome seasoning or a messy chili burger you go to the Burger House. I have been going there since I was a little kid and my dad has been going there ever since he discovered the place in college. My biggest selling point on the place is that the original owner remembered my dad even though he hadnt seen him in many years, just by what he had ordered. Even though its owned by someone else the current owner still carries the same traditons as Jack and is there on a daily basis. To me that says alot. So if you looking for some really good fries, a shake, and burger, then you cant beat this little hole in the wall burger joint.

Pros: Great food and great setting

Cons: Parking is a pain, seating is limited, worse if its raining
