Editorial Review for Sushi Sapporo – by Melissa Ragsdale
The Scene
Sharing a sidewalk with a couple of other popular eateries makes this restaurant a see-and-be-seen experience. Inside, polished concrete floors, low industrial-style lighting and a black-slate sushi bar create a sleek, stylish vibe compromised only by TVs tuned to sports channels. The crowd is hip and casual, and the service is patient and knowledgeable.
The Food
An artful blending of fresh seafood and well-matched sauces render garnishes superfluous on many selections. Soft-shell crab is incredibly light and crisp, both as an appetizer with a drizzle of sweet teriyaki, and in the Spider roll, a surprising trio of crab, mango and punchy curry mayo. Best bets include the skewered Scottish salmon yakatori. For hotter tastes, the oyster po maki roll is mixed with fresh jalapeno. The menu also includes Japanese pork cutlet paired with a zingy ginger-dressing salad. A delicate green-tea ice cream makes for a cool finish.

The sushi here is pretty good and fairly reasonably priced. The restaurant never seems to be packed (although I've heard it is when they have karaoke). There isn't really much of a scene here, the decor is plain with white tablecloths. It is a good place to go when you are looking for something low key, don't want to dress up, or don't want to wait for a table. It is always easy to talk since it is so quiet, and I have always been happy with the food (which I was initially nervous about at Sushi Sapporo since sushi often is not fresh when a restaurant is empty).
Pros: Good sushi, no wait, quick service
Cons: If you are looking for a "fun" place to go, you won't find it here.

So after reading a couple review of the new set up of this place I was a tad skeptical. I have been going to Sapporo weekly for over a year now and after a week long sadness of thinking the place closed down, I am happy to say that is not true. The lunch buffet or all-you-eat from the menu is still a great deal. For only 20 bucks you get to choose from all items on the previous buffet plus a lot more. You can now get edamame plus all the usual sides and now you can order any roll from there menu. I still recommend this place and will continue to go there weekly, check it out!!
