Best restaurant in Dallas – My girlfriend and I came here for restaurant week. While I have had drinks at the bar previously, neither she nor I had ever dined here. Upon our entry, Adam, the host, made us feel very welcome and sat us in the main dining room. After our water glasses were filled, we were greeted by Susan, our waitress for the rest of the evening.

What surprised us immediately, was the way that the Mansion managed to be classy without being stuffy. Sure, the place looks nice and you'd feel out of place in Jeans and a T-shirt; however, nothing about the service came across as overly formal. We felt very comfortable throughout our long evening.

We both opted for the 3 course wine pairing with our meals, and boy am I glad we did! My appetizer was a watermelon salad with slices of fried prosciutto matched with an Austrian Gruner Veltliner. I thought the match sounded odd, as the GV is a very dry wine. However, it worked perfectly. The pours were generous without being over the top ~4 oz per glass. Without boring you with every detail of every course, let me summarize it by saying it was all well-conceived, well-executed, with great wine matches and attentive service.

This is without a doubt, the best restaurant I have eaten at in my eight years in Dallas - and probably one of the top 20 in the US. When you have an important event and don't mind spending some money, this would be the place to go. Very classy. Just don't expect HUGE portions and you will love it.

If you're wondering about the one and two star reviews, don't worry. Click on those reviewers and you will find that they have not reviewed anything else. Don't put too much weight on their reviews - I would not be surprised if it's jealous competitors or upset ex-employees.

I have NEVER had anything like this!! – This restaurant and its staff are the most amazing combination in exquisite dining I have ever seen. The service was impeccable, the food was something I'd only dreamed of, and the ambiance was divine! No matter where you sit in the Mansion restaurant you will be pleased however, I highly recommend reserving the Chef's Room. You pay more but it is so very worth it! We left feeling MORE than satisfied, knowing we got exactly what we paid for. We plan to go back regularly. If you're thinking of going to this restaurant, you won't be sorry! Although, once you get there and experience it for yourself, you'll be sorry you didn't discover it sooner!

One of the top hotels in Dallas – The mansion is really nice and they take care of everything. It is definitely pricy but I would say it is worth it as a splurge hotel. Dallas does not have a real central area or geographic feature that hotels need to be near to be nice, the Mansion just tries to take care of everything you might need and make itself nice that way and it really does a good job.

A hugh disappointment, poor service, poor food – My family went to the restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday. Although reservations had been made far in advance, they had no table set up for us. We were told there was no room in the main dining room so they put us on the enclosed porch. Men were power washing the porch and the furniture and we asked not to be seated there. The hostess looked annoyed and took us back to the main room, which had several empty tables,. and we were made to wait while they set one up. My daughter ordered the serveche which was a small portion, and it had shells of some kind in it. My husband ordered the spinach salad and scallops. The server told him the spinach salad was "huge" so he would split it to share. He did so. The split portions were extremely small. My husband's scallop dish turned out to be 3 scallops swimming in a miso. I ordered the salmon club sandwich which had minimum filling served on untoasted soggy bread. My son had to ask time and again for condiments for his hamburger. After all of this, the highlight of the meal was saved for the end. My husband, seeing some small chocolates (about the size of a dime) being brought to another table, asked if "the birthday celebrant" might have one. He was told that "those are not for everyone." He persisted and the server brought one to our table ,admonishing my husband not to let anyone know about getting the treat. Contrast this with the Capital Grille where we had had lunch the previous day and were treated like royalty. The Mansion Restaurant, in food and service, is of less quality than many chain restaurants I have been to. A huge disappointment!!

Inventive modern American creations coupled with royal treatment keeps this Dallas institution fresh and at the top of its game. – In Short
With a redesigned decor of modern elegance, a departure from southwestern fare and the 2007 appointed Chef John Tesar, this legendary restaurant is an updated Dallas darling. The bar, main dining room and chef's parlor accommodate in five star fashion but without the stuffy posture. Contemporary American cuisine spotlights regional ingredients and showcases inventive culinary skills with items such as shrimp lollipop canapés, oyster shooters amuse-bouche, Elysian Farms lamb and a PBJ dessert. Wine director Michael Flynn intelligently pairs palate pleasing wines with the creations while the entire staff gives the royal treatment.

fabulous experience all around - delicious!!! – My boyfriend and I recently had dinner at The Mansion and absolutely LOVED it! It is such a beautiful restaurant. We sat in the sun room looking out onto tress filled with intricate lanterns. It was so romantic. The service was exquisite and seamless. Each course was perfectly timed and we always had everything we needed without being interrupted by a lot of conversation and questions. It was one of the best meals we've ever had - unbelievable filet minion. Everything was so delicious. I loved all the ice cream flavors and the great presentation. Two thumbs up and five stars for sure!!

Extremely disappointed in recent Mansion visit. – We have been patrons of The Mansion since it opened. Last Monday we brought a friend to lunch for the first time since the remodeling and the chef change. There are no delineations on the menu as to what is an appetizer and what is an entree. Our party ordered the grapefruit and avocado salad, the white truffle pasta and the hamburger. The salad was only an appetizer portion and, while very fresh and flavorful, hardly satisfying as an entree. The pasta was also a very small portion and the hamburger was overcooked. Two desserts were ordered and again, while very tasty, were not worth their price. All told, our bill was $135.00 and we all left hungry. The new decor is pleasant, but not that much of an improvement over the previous and there is no linen on any of the tables or the bowls of fresh roses that used to adorn each table. Over all, we were extremely disappointed and will probably not return until we hear of some major changes being made.

Annoyed – My wife and I had a tradition of going to the Mansion every year for her birthday. This last year, after the remodeling, we went to the Mansion for dinner, me dressed in a suit and my wife in a dress (per their orders). We arrived and there were men without jackets on, which we had specifically been told that men could not dine without jackets. Annoying. Then we were seated next to a table with a 2 year old child, in his high chair. Throughout the dinner, the child acted like 2 year olds do. The food was not as wonderful as we remembered it and our dinner experience was terrible. It's my opinion that when you dine at a five star restaurant that requires dresses and suits, that being sat next to a small child is unacceptable. If I wanted to dine next to noisy children, I'd go to Chili's. When my wife and I told the maitre d' about this, he only stated that they had to accommodate their hotel guests. Needless to say, we were disappointed in the overall experience and will not be returning to dine at this restaurant.
