Editorial Review for The Grape – by Holly Hickman
The Scene
Dark woods, red-and-white checkered tablecloths and murals of grape vines recall bistro and wine country. The restaurant seats a few dozen at best, lending an air of intimacy, but reverberation from the concrete floors makes conversation difficult. A blackboard lists the menu, which changes every two weeks.
The Food
Mainstays include the very woodsy and creamy mushroom soup. Baked Brie and honey beg to be slathered onto crusty hot bread. Pork osso buco gives the classic dish a lighter, peachier twist (it's served with a generous scoop of soft polenta). A simple grilled Scottish salmon fillet gets a kick from a mound of horseradish cream, but is cooled off by a dill-heavy couscous pilaf. Tres leches receives the royal chocolate treatment, tempered by a sprinkle of walnuts. A cheesecake-like ricotta torta also gets turned on its head, this time by a good dousing of robust espresso.

The Grape has been closed for lunch since September, when the new owners took over. The old management and it's mentality are gone. The new owners have worked fervently to return this gem to it's original luster. If you have not visited since the Luschers have taken the keys, you are missing out on one of Dallas' best restaurants. Leave them a message, I bet they will call you back...

I dined here for lunch a few times. A little pricy, but the food is ok. It is fairly near where I work. The service is slow, and the last time I was there they charged me TWICE for my meal. I called and left several messages for the manager, and even sent a few emails. NO ONE has responded. My advice to you...If you do decide to dine here, BRING CASH, otherwise you may be ripped off, and getting someone to call you back is impossible.
Cons: supposedly romantic, but all the tables are nearly on top of one another. I do not consider a romantic dinner to be on top of the couple eating next to me.
