Editorial Review for Cafe San Miguel – by Amanda Howe
The Scene
This stylish and lively gathering place is imbued with the same artistic spirit of its namesake Mexican town, 16th-century San Miguel de Allende. Vibrant orange walls trimmed with yellow wood paneling, circular parchment-covered shades emitting subdued light, and an accompanying salsa beat create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
The Food
Menu highlights include fresh fish and game dishes. Start with seviche or guacamole; both are flavorful blends of chopped ingredients with healthy helpings of cilantro. Entrees include the grilled quail in pipian sauce served on a bed of grilled onion, apple, tomato, and zucchini drizzled with queso fresco. The pan-seared snapper lightly sauced in tomatillo and avocado puree is a delicate, subtly smoky entree. Save room for the Mexican chocolate cake, a rich and creamy dessert dusted with powdered sugar and topped with fresh mint and strawberries.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkFor those who like sweet, exotic drinks the signature Pomerita cocktail is the perfect blend of lime, pomegranate, and tequila over crushed ice this side of the border.
Know Before You GoThe waitstaff is not joking when they tell you the complimentary salsa de arbol is fiery hot. Do not attempt unless your aim is to solicit chuckles from your dining companions as they watch steam pour out your ears.
Save MoneyEnjoy bottomless mimosas and bloody maries at the Sunday Brunch, which also includes a special menu.

I am unsure how anyone could have a bad experience here... every single visit of the over 20 I have had, was fantastic! If you go, you have to try the Ceviche' as well as the Queso Fundido, and the Tres Leches Cake (dare I say it's better than La Duni's?) By far the most authentic, great tasting food, and the Pomegranate Margaritia's are worth a try as well. Over the weekends you'll find that you'll need to make a reservation, but during the week, you can easily walk in and get a seat. The restaurant layout is more for fun with your significant other or friends than a romantic night out... and the decor is very well thought out. My boyfriend and I make it out to the restaurant AT LEAST once a month, and when you're a regular, the owners and managment notice. Overall, this is a great place to eat, with a fun causal atmosphere. Cheers!

Today I visited Cafe San Miguel for the first time with friends - the occasion was my birthday. We had a perfectly wonderful lunch (I highly recommend the Enchiladas de Bistec!). The food was wonderful, the atmosphere and decor very authentically Mexican - I visit San Miguel de Allende every year. At the end of our lunch, without comment, our waiter placed before me a heavenly big slice of Tres Leches cake, beautifully served with drizzles of chocolate sauce on the plate, and a strawberry cut to look like a rose - also, forks enough for all five of us. My friends were astonished - no one had ordered the cake, and the only visible signs to any observer that it was my birthday was that my friends, who arrived before me, made a comment about saving a seat for "the birthday girl", and I opened a small wrapped gift before lunch. The waiter had simply OBSERVED what was going on, and very graciously offered the dessert. This waiter is a PRO!! And Cafe San Miguel is a pearl!!
