Editorial Review for Village Burger Bar – by Teresa Gubbins
In Short
Sleek as a loft with poured cement floors, yet comfortable, this burger spot comes from husband-wife Mike and Susan Matta, who owned a branch of Celebrity Bakery before striking out on their own. They use fresh-ground beef, not frozen, and unique toppings: cheddar, Swiss, or blue cheese with avocado and bacon. The menu also has panini sandwiches, mesclun-mix salad, and housemade apple praline pie. Sweet potato fries are nearly as popular as the regular shoestring.

Staff has a very snooty attitude. they swear they are all high end since thet're in WV. It's lost it's magic and reminds me of the new old West end District. While the atmosphere is sleek, the staff counters that with an insincere and impersonal attitude. Good burgers come and go and this place can surely be let go. The Mojitos were the best thing on the menu. The greens inside my burger were weathered and soggy. While the blue cheese that I requested was more of a dressing than the scripted crumbles. Left some shades on the table as well as a phone. When I realized it not 5 minutes later, the boys who bussed our table had no idea where it was, since my party was the last to leave it made for a terrible experience. Would reccomend Hunkeys Snookies or Snuffers for a good burger. Try Nandinas for an even better Mojito.
Pros: Like the WC. Its clean
Cons: Small with a careless attitude

I used to love to go here for a burger by lately this place has been very disappointing. The attitude of the staff has always been a little annoying, but now has turned downright rude. I may still have been able to overlook that is the food quality was what it once was. The meat is very "gritty" now, and the burgers often come out over cooked. The famed sweet potato fries are also frequently served cold, as if they have been sitting around. Seems like the people who run this place have spent too much time reading their own press.
Pros: none now
Cons: attitude seems to be hurting the quality
