In Short – Ronald "R.J." Honore and wife Judy have given a sultry makeover to the Deep Ellum space, with vibrant-hued walls and richly patterned carpeting. Expect a friendly greeting at the door and, from the kitchen, the real Cajun/Creole deal: gumbo, red beans and rice, corn-crab bisque, po'boys--and lots of fried fish: catfish, oysters and shrimp. The menu offers fried chicken, too, as well as pastas, stuffed bell peppers, and New Orleans bread pudding for dessert.

I went to look for this venue after being recommended by a website but this place is now longer in business! There is a new place there called "Lemongrass"
- Pros: No longer exists!
- Cons: No longer exists!
Slow service, but food is well worth it
by LSUTxTiger
I took my dad there yesterday for a late lunch. We were the only ones there. Service was slower that I'd have liked, but I think it's due to the owner RJ being the only cook in the back. My dad ordered a cup of gumbo and the fried chicken with jambalaya. I ordered the smothered okra with fried chicken. Overall, the food was delicious and authentic New Orleans faire. The chicken was by far the best thing we ate. It had a light, crispy crust (just how I like it). Even better was the seasoning. It tasted as the chicken had been brined. Every bite was juicy and seasoned perfectly. I had a breast and we all know that many places can screw it up and serve dry meat. That wasn't the case here. My dad commented that the gumbo was tasty as well. The okra was filling (no tomatoes like I'd hoped, but that's how I had it growing up); it had ham, sausage, and shrimp throughout. The only drawbacks were minor. I prefer my shrimp to be deveined, and the bread served before the meal was "buttered" with Parkay or margarine. I'm a butter only girl. All in all, it was a delicious meal, and I'd definitely go back, even if it were only for the chicken. It's unfortunate that they aren't more busy (I've been twice where it has been almost empty); maybe the dinner service is different, as I've only gone for lunch. I'd give RJ's 3 and a half stars.
- Pros: fried chicken, gumbo, reasonable prices
- Cons: service, un-deveined shrimp, "buttery" bread
Love the Food!

I was there on a Wednesday night and we were the only customers there. Please put the word out so that they can stay open. I had the Fried Gator that was wonderful and Cream Pasta with Crawfish which was very good. Try the Iced Tea it is also great!
- Pros: Wonderful New Orleans style food
