The Scene
Floor-to-ceiling wine shelves line this highly urban, crackling-with-energy dining room, with tables set so closely, patrons quickly learn to love thy neighbor. A patio in front offers an alfresco option. Solo diners, cell phones pressed to their ears, camp out at the bar under the eye of congenial bartender Craig Wolf and pay their respects to the portrait of Frank Sinatra on the wall.

The Food
This is true New York-style pizza, right down to the coal-burning oven, blazing away at 900 degrees. Topping options are few--sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and roasted pepper. It's all about the crust: thin in the center, crisp and chewy around the edge. More portable are the pizza rolls, like turnovers, filled with zesty Parmesan chicken or ricotta and mozzarella cheese. Salads are a revelation, sprinkled with blue cheese and candied nuts; French fries, too, spiked with rosemary and crunchy, addictive garlic chips.

This was definitely my all time WORST dining experience. The service was terrible from the waitstaff to the bartenders. They were rude and definitely made it clear that we were just another group of customers. The waitress was flaky and completely messed up our check and then tried to make us feel bad about it. The food was definitely average. This used to be a place I enjoyed visiting on occasion but I will never return. There are many more restaurants out there that treat their customers well and provide great service that I do not plan on wasting my time or money at Coal Vines.

I have to be honest I took my wife to coal vines b/c of the mixed reviews that I have read about it. The reviews that I have looked over gave it high regards in the food catigory but very low in service. I must say that we had a pizza that was good, but service that was great. People that write these reviews must understand that when you take a group into a small establishment don't think that you are gods gift to the dollar, this business is out to make money. Take large groups at off times and if you must take a group that is large move quickly. You people that think b/c you go into this restaurant and spend money you own the table have got to get your head out!! If you enjoy the food go on off times to sit and chat or go when it is busy and move your a** period.

This is a place for the people of Dallas who don't demand even a decent service. The staff is rude and completely unprofessional. Don't go there unless you want to be treated like an animal.
