Went here for the first time last week.
I called ahead and made an appointment. When I arrived, I told them I was a new customer and asked their rate for an acrylic full set. The receptionist walked me back to a station and pitched to me a new product they were using to replace acrylics, and told me the product on my own nails would be $35 + $5 if i wanted tips (I did), totalling $40.
My manicurist arrived shortly and was friendly. He did a very nice job on my nails, and told me to ask for him when I came back for a fill.
When I went to pay out, the same receptionist that greeted me told me my total was $50. I politely asked if they could itemize that for me and was met with a blank stare from both receptionists. One grabbed a manager(owner?), and asked him something quietely. The manager, standing directly across from me, loudly said "So wait, is she asking why it's $50?"
I chimed in that the price was fine and I was happy to pay it, I simply was asking for an itemization since i'd be told $40. The manager seemed annoyed and walked away with the receptionist to my nail tech. When they returned, the manager said "Ok, so its $35 for the product and $5 for the tips and $5 because they are long." I responded "ok, so that's 45..." He sighed and walked away again with the receptionist back to the nail tech. When he came back, again i'm standing right there, he said to the receptionist "He said to make it $45." then walked off. The receptionist showed me the new total and said "ok, so he gave you a $5 discount."
I thought about pointing out to him that this wasnt a 'discount', as I was still being charged more than I was told, but at that point was feeling embarassed and just wanted to leave. I left a $10 tip and went on my way.
Pros:
The nail tech did a great job and was polite
The place is clean and the service quick
Affordable
Cons:
I didnt appreciate being made to feel cheap by asking why a price (that I was happy to pay) had changed.
I dont like that the tech just tells the receptionist the price and its not verified. It felt almost sneaky to me and they couldnt account for the other $5 I was being charged.
Charging $5 after the service is done for "length" when i'm already paying an additional $5 for the tips is a shakedown I'd had at a few salons that I havent returned to.
Fantastic!. This nail salon/spa stays very busy, so always call for an appointment. But, they do a great job. As far as price, you get what you pay for; I've been to cheap places and gotten cheap results. Serenity is just as reasonable as any other nice nail salon. They are busy for a reason.
