Editorial Review for Afrah Restaurant and Pastries – by Cheryl Ng Collett
The Scene
There's not much decor to speak of at this busy Lebanese joint. The place is simply decorated with a few photographic stills of the country's beautiful architecture. But Richardson residents and the local Middle Eastern community remain unfazed. The restaurant does a swift takeout business. Staff is friendly and patient to translate the menu for the uninitiated. They switch effortlessly from Arabic to English and greet regulars by name.
The Food
The Afrah Sampler is a filling platter of zesty homemade dips, grape leaves, falafel, kibbeh and warm miniature pies. Chewy oven-fresh pita bread accompanies the dish. Tender moist cubes of lamb in the lamb kebab plate come with two sides including fattoush, a tangy Lebanese salad. Choosing desserts become a little overwhelming. The large pastry counter is filled to the brim with treats from sweet baklava to exotic pastries and gelato. Cardamom scented Arabic coffee is strong and syrupy.
