Tips for Pete & Mac's Pet Resorts

We luv Pete & Mac's. Our dogs come for grooming and sometimes boarding, everyone there is great and always greet us by name. They let us know how are dogs are doing and seem to genuinely care about about our fur kids.

Nice Building, Lousy Management. Pet owners beware. Pete and Macs has the highest quality, most expensive facility around, but has inept management that often puts pets and employees in danger. Their pet to employee ratio is advertised as 35 to 1 ? one of the highest in the area ? but since they are chronically understaffed, even that number is often exceeded during daycare. It is not uncommon to see 1 employee supervising 50 to 60 dogs in their outdoor play area. In the evenings, they put all boarding dogs out together regardless of size or temperament. This often puts small dogs in danger of being stepped on, chased, or bitten by larger, more aggressive dogs. They have a manager living on site, but that person is not responsible for checking on the animals at any time after hours. Dogs do not get out to go to the bathroom between 5pm and 8am ? 16 hours! Dogs who can?t make it have to go to the bathroom in their kennels and often step or lay in their own feces and urine. Having to ?hold it? that long is especially distressing to dogs that are housebroken. Don?t even think about paying the $5 per day for an ?extra 20 minute exercise period? - your dog won?t get it.

The cat room constantly smells because cat litter is only scooped once a day and the ventilation is poor. The climate control is unreliable and the temperature often exceeded 85 degrees this past summer. Significantly hotter than the ?cool and calm? they advertise in their brochure. Cats are supposed to be let out for an hour of exercise a day, but that is routinely overlooked because of understaffing.

Ultimately, I was disappointed at seeing the inner workings of this business because the building has such potential.
