Editorial Review for Swirll - Dallas' Downtown Winery – by Teresa Gubbins

In Short
Residing in the historic Davis Building, this mom-and-pop winery boasts 5,200 square feet, cement floors, and high ceilings. But the loft's edginess is offset by antique-sponged walls, iron chandeliers, and a quaint faux-house construction that serves as a bar. While the main activity is bottling-your-own--usually with a group of friends--you can also pop in to share a bottle or sip a glass, from a list of rotating selections. For nibbling, a gourmet cheese plate costs $14.

What a wonderful place! We went here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary to bring back our memories of our honeymoon in France...it was amazing. Louis(owner) was our host. He was so friendly. He tasted wine with us, shared stories as well as explained the different cheeses, jams, fruits, the pairings... It was a wonderful evening. The only thing that would have made this better is if it was in an actual wine cave.

I went last fall with a party of 10 or so for a "girl's night out." We were given different appetizers (homemade meatballs, alfredo pizza etc...) with each tasting of a new wine. The pairings were perfect and the service was wonderful. Although we chose not to make our own wine, we bought several bottles from the tasting and will definitly go back. We were happy with our experience!

Pros: The expertise and pairing of wine and homemade appetizers

Cons: none
