Forget Downtown Dallas!! Highland Village has This Place!!!.
In celebration of my son's high achievement and graduation from HS, I wanted to treat him to a fantastic meal. The only problem is that even the best restaurants in Dallas are hit andf miss and the price is still always high. We heard of The Grotto though a friend and it looked perfect online so we made reservations.
The location is a bit off the path if you are from anywhere outside the Lewisville, Flower Mound, Highland Village area but still easy to find (right off Hwy 407) but WELL WORTH IT TRUST ME!!
The staff were EXCELLENT, very attentive and well trained!! You can always tell the quality by the staff. As we waited for our meal, Chef Morris made his rounds, stopped at our table and congratualted my son personally!! VERY CLASSY!!! He also invited our 5 year old son to join him in the kitchen where they made a surprise salad for his mom!! He held the plate so proudly and Chef Morris was standing behind him telling momma how our son made the salad with love for his mother!! HOW SWEET!! NICE TOUCH!!
The meal was fantastic!!!!!! I had a filet topped with crab. I am VERY picky about my steak and this was the BEST steak I have EVER had!! Wow!! My wife had the snapper with crab and it was also fantasic!! My elder son had the crab legs and they were once again the best I ever tasted!! My mom & dad shared the steak and lobster for two and it was phenominal!! YES, I tasted everyone's meal as I was footing the bill!! ;-)
With wine and two FANTASTIC and very original desserts, we closed our evening at The Grotto. It was worth every penny and I left feeling very satisfied with our choice of restaurant in which to celebrate. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO THOSE WHO ARE AS PICKY AS I AM!!! THE BEST IN DALLAS AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED!!
eat --- drink ---- and have the dessert. A wonderful experiance - An event !!!
Awesome. Great service and Fabulous food! Owner/chef awesome!. Layed back atmosphere, Fabulous food! Chef/Owner is amazing! Very personal service. They are glad to have you in there restaraunt. Chef/Owner actually took my daughter into the kitchen to help prepare the Grand Mernier soufffle! Very personal service . The Lobster and spinach salad as well as the foie gras was amazing! Highly recommended.
Classy seafood restaurant is all the rage in this north of Dallas neighborhood..
In Short
Looking for that romantic restaurant to take a special someone? Then this place if perfect. Not only do they offer intimate dining in a dim sensual atmosphere, but they also have a hall that can be rented for special group occasions. They indulge their seafood loving patrons with classic dishes like mussels and king crab legs, with portions large enough to share. When it comes to seafood, the Salerno family knows fresh.
Be warned.
If you like a smoky bar, the Grotto excels.
Tonight with reservations for the Valentine's Day dinner at 8PM, it took almost an extra hour to be seated. Part of the problem was inept staff. While waiting in the bar, it was apparent that couples that had reservations after ours were being seated ahead of us. When this was brought to the attention of staff, Morris' daughter, she was upset. After being seated Morris himself appeared. Without asking anything, we were told to leave.
I have been going there for 3 years and my date almost 15. This was clearly the last time.
I will never go there again. We finished our special evening at Patrizio's and had an absolutely wonderful meal and evening.
If you like a restaurant that hasn't updated its decor for at least a decade and has a pompus a$$ as a chef, the Grotto is your place to go.
What a WONDERFUL experience!. We had our anniversary dinner at The Grotto and had a fabulous time! All of the food was beautifully presented and delicious! The chef, Morris Salerno, came to our table to say hello. What a nice man! I can't wait to go back! (especially for the shecrab soup)
Wonderful date place! What a perfect evening... The atmosphere was fabulous and the food, including service, was perfect. We had our first date there and plan to have many more to come.
Two tablespoons of comfort. This is our third year eating at the Grotto for New Years Eve, it can be a little pricey, for my hubby, myself and our 2 children ages 6 and 4 too eat with tip it was $250.00. The food is very flavorful, has great presentation and is well thought out. Last year the Grotto had a dance floor for NY and we missed it this year. The service is always very pleasent and chef Salerno always comes to each table for a meet and greet. Our family goes to the Grotto every couple of months and for most major holidays we always have a wonderful times and leave stuffed!
Great food nestled in the 'burbs. The food was wonderful (comprable to Morton's or Bob's) and the price was reasonable (at least 30% below similar quality food offerings).
Disappointing and Over-rated. Over priced for the quality of the meal. The food is good but only average. Reservations are required but there is no dress code which is contradictory, not only to the outrageous prices, but to the environment. I have eaten at fine restaraunts all over the world. This one makes you wonder if Chef Salerno thinks that he is the only game in town.
