Editorial Review for The Cape – by Cheryl Ng Collett
The Scene
The historic cottage built in 1911 transports diners to the beach town the restaurant is named after. Weather beaten beach chairs lounge lazily outside. The patio has a laid back atmosphere and waiters provide water bowls for pooches outside. Inside, lovely seashells and toy boats line the windows. Breezy fans, nautical artworks and snappy white linens complete the interior seascape. Servers are menu-savvy and friendly.
The Food
The menu is based on healthy preparation of seasonal items without any heavy creams or sauces. The crab cake appetizer with mango coulis is large enough to share. Fresh tuna tartar combined with an Asian sesame hot suce and jalapenos is a fiery choice. Entrees such as grilled salmon or jumbo shrimp are simply finished off in the ominous wood-fire oven and accompanied by a daily rice/potato and vegetable. Smooth delectable cheesecakes in a buttery graham cracker crust and tangy, chilled key lime pie, shine.
Hits: Check out the meatloaf, it's surprisingly good.
Misses: Aside from the decor, very little on the menu represents New England.
