Down home jazz club south of downtown combines rhythm, soul and blues with equally spicy food..
The Scene
Surrounded by sound, black cocktail tables separate the band from the bar in this loft-like space. Ocher red brick and black dominate the decor and exposed roof rafters set the informal mood for bebop, jazz, reggae and soul performers. Two full-service bars, widescreen TVs, and a billiards room add to the entertainment possibilities.
The Food
The sandwich menu has the old standards like Monte Cristo and fried catfish, while the dinner menu has more unique offerings such as seafood lasagna and mango-glazed stuffed pork chop. The grilled salmon dinner is a juicy blackened filet served on a bed of bowtie pasta with savory pesto sauce and grilled squash on the side. Spinach and artichoke dip is a spicy starter. Praline pound cake smothered in caramel sauce and filled with vanilla ice cream is a must-have dessert.
Hits: A varied dinner menu and free music with no cover charge rounds out an outstanding and inexpensive evening.
Misses: Though delightfully palatable to most, sensitive taste buds might find most dishes spiced too generously with cayenne pepper.
Great Experience. I had the most enjoyable experience while visiting Brookllyn's in Oct. 2007. I live in CA and I was in town for the weekend. I was told this was the place for the GROWN & INFORMED. The food and music were great. My suggestion is to arrive early because the place fills up quick. We arrived at about 8:30pm on a Saturday and were escorted to our seats by who I believe was the owner. The food was delicious and the music provided by Paul Rogers & The Natural Change Band was even better. The wait staff was very attentive and I will definitely make Brooklyn's a regular place to visit while in Dallas. All in all, you have check them out, you will not be disappointed.
