The Scene
Dramatic shades of red and black saturate the towering booths, textured walls and Asian lanterns creating a vivid and cultural dining mood. Mystical music pervades the trendy bar scene, dark dining area and sushi bar. The service is thorough and allows for a leisurely culinary experience in a hopping atmosphere.
The Food
The beef ribeye rolls appetizer is a bulls-eye choice with seasoned ribeye, avocado, cilantro and teriyaki sauce and the binnaga taki is tender albacore with a hint of tangerine. A crunchy tiger eye roll with salmon, cream cheese and jalapenos or the cheeseburger roll with crab, tuna and spicy sauce starts the main meal off well and a wide selection of nigiri, sashimi, specialty rolls and entrees such as braised short ribs can satisfy a wide range of preferences. Rotating flavors of deep fried ice cream dessert are worth a visit alone, the mango being most popular.
Hits: The intense colorful decor and mood immediately detracts from the hustle and stress of sidewalk and McKinney Avenue traffic.
Misses: The side menu item of goat cheese mashers was a bit dry and without the expected taste of goat cheese.

I am not ready to say that The Fish has the best sushi in town, because I didn't sit at the sushi bar, and I didn't order any nigiri. I will say that it offers an amazing dining experience, one of the best I've had in Dallas. The decor is gorgeous but not overpowering, the service friendly, prompt and professional, and the food outstanding. The seaweed salad had a delicate flavor and just the right texture - not a bit soggy or limp. The makimono were creative, well constructed and tasty. Two very non traditional rolls (the Ribeye Roll and the Caliente) were astonishingly good - worth writing home about. I was very happy with this restaurant and am already planning my next visit. It will definitely be on my list of places to take out of town guests as well as local friends.

I had been dying to try the Fish ever since they opened. I finally had my chance the other night. The restaurant's interior is beautiful. I thought the food was average at best. I had a spicy tuna roll and did not think it was spicy. I even asked for spicy mayo so that it tasted better. I had shrimp and veggie tempura and the shrimp was plump, large, and very good. The tempura was good but I like anything fried. My husband had a chicken appetizer and he said it was very bland. If we ever return it will be for the atmosphere and a drink and not likely the food.

Lets be realistic...you are not going to find some of the freshest raw sea food in Texas unless you pay an arm and a leg. I had an order to go, and asked for white tuna sashimi. I was then greeted with white tuna tataki (seared) which tasted slightly fishy, and had faint pink in it. White tuna is supposed to be fresh and creamy tasty, which this was not. Their age dofu tasted great, and I tried a spicy tuna roll, which was probably the best thing I had. The sea diver roll had hamachi (yellowtail) and eel. The yellowtail could have been fresher, the eel tasted good. Creative looking rolls wrapped perfectly, with the right amount of rice was a plus. All in all, I don't think this is a bad place. The prices are somewhat fair, but the freshness is lacking. That is something that is hard to find in Dallas for a reasonable price. Having said that I would not go back and order off the raw menu, I would probably explore the cooked items.
