Editorial Review for Social House – by Sabra Girard
The Scene
Step off the busy sidewalk into to an intimate bar area for those who want to sip cocktails and people watch. A side staircase leads to a slender underground pub area where booths are packed with young guests and bookend bars are crowded with singles. A large fireplace warms the mood regardless of being lit.
The Food
Menu is designed for down home appetites with a flair for adventure. A raw platter of sliders, crab and shrimp is a fresh way to begin the meal or mini burgers for those who need a little burger satisfaction. Until the entrée such as the short rib grilled cheese is placed on the table, the pining for more appetizers is strong. To excite a potential bland side item, corn is prepared with to excited and items such as short rib grilled cheese sandwich makes mom's cookin' seem dismal.
Hits: The seemingly private underground pub area is a nice alternative ambiance to the showy dining-scene trends in Dallas.
Misses: Although the food is an overall exceptional, the steak was chewy and lacked flavor beyond the oils you could dip it in.

While most of my experiences at the social house have been okay/good, if you are going to go to this place, I would recommend paying cash. One particular bartender charged my tab 8 drinks instead of 6 (I just payed it b/c I was ready to go and didn't feel like messing with it), but he also decided to give himself an additional $20 tip (beyond what we already tipped him) - as he charged my credit card $20 more than the tab + tip was. Thankfully I checked my credit card statement and caught the discrepancy. Lame. Even though this place is only a couple of blocks from me and a place I frequent often, I won't be going back.
Pros: good atmosphere
Cons: overcharged

During the playoffs stopped in for something new, tvs were great and the crowd was fun. Hopefully the stars keep going and I can continue coming to watch my favorite sports!
