Great for the MONEY!! – I'm a sushi snob and was reluctant to try this place but its wonderful! Is it Nobu - NO but for $17.50" all you can eat it" you can't go wrong. Plus kids under 6 eat free which is nice when you've got 2 kids. I've never had a bad experience and if I can't find something on the belt they bring it from the back. If you have kids the staff is very sweet and makes sure to do whatever possible to make the lil ones happy. That's nice b/c most places are not so accomodating to children.
FOOD POISONING - STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE – I got food poisoning at Sushi Envy and spent the night in the ER. This is a horrible place and you should stay away!!!!
sweet deal! love this sushi place – hi y'all...from austin tx here...hook 'em horns! anyhow...i was visiting relatives in plano and a bit nervous when my cousin told me about this place...I AM NOT THE BIGGEST FAN OF SEAFOOD...I'LL ADMIT. totally assumed eating raw fish would like kill me or taste totally bland...but I went here and it was like the coolest place ever. at first i thought the atmosphere was like too fancy or whatever and i felt so underdressed...but ha this is texas...everyone is in jeans so it was all good. but yea like i was sayin the food was really something different and like an explosion of flavor which im not used to....i was recommended to try one of the handmade wraps...which was super healthy and sweet and crunchy all at once...i was in heaven:) ate about 4 more of those and then i moved on to the rolls...love the VOLCANO!..UNLIKE ANY OTHER IVE TRIED HERE IN AUSTIN...AND I ALSO loved the texas tornado cuz you know girls got to have the fried stuff. and whats really neat is how it all just went around on the belt and i never had to wait....except for my drinks...hehe these waitresses sure know how to keep them comin....im now officially a sake girl:). love to come back some time and try more stuff. ..like if they had any noodle dishes....oh and by the way all you haters out there...the plates are just 2 dollars....where in the world are you goin to get a deal like that...sushi aint meant for the cheap or broke but in this case i am and i likes it...so please...back off. and not all rolls are variations of the california...if you knew more about sushi you would be able to tell that. and if you have a problem...they do tell you you can have specially made stuff....ok. sorry if i was out of line or wrote too much. i just have a crush on the guy that works there too:) RUTH HERE...PEACE OUT
Should Not Be Allowed To Serve Food – When I saw Sushi Envy set up shop around the corner from us, I was interested in trying it just because of the conveyor belt concept. Call it being a kid, but who wouldn't be entertained by watching sushi roll around a restaurant like a toy train at Christmas...c'mon!
The restaurant is quite nice with your typical Japanese restaurant decor. We sat at the sushi bar which was surprisingly small with only two sushi chefs. How do just two people crank out that much sushi to fill a conveyor? I was kind of weary about the service but it turns out it's all coming from the back and the sushi chefs up front are rolling the special orders.
To the food - I can not remember when I had such a disappointing food experience. We watched as the sushi train rolled by and grabbed some Unagi and a Volcano Roll to start, but after that nothing looked appealing. Looking for more I realized a pattern...everything is a California Roll. Okay, a popular roll it is, but it served as a platform for everything else. You want a salmon roll? You got it, a piece of salmon atop a California Roll. Tuna roll you say? Okay. A piece of tuna over a California Roll. How about an ell roll? Ell over a California Roll. Looking for something a little more appetizing, a little more typical sushi fare, I ordered a spicy tuna roll. This is not a joke; the waitress serves us...wait for it...a canned tuna roll! Chicken of The Frickin Sea wrapped in rice and Nori. I then ordered once more and I then saw the chefs make a spicy tuna roll with raw tuna, so I was feeling better. Watching the sushi chefs took a little courage. The sushi menu has picture of each roll which was placed in front of the sushi chef...I'm guessing it wasn't meant decoration. Then looking at the fish - the pieces looked like scrap...scragly pieces they were hacking at with their knives. No beautiful blocks of fish here. One chef handed us the plates and said "if you like tell me, if you don't like tell him." The taste was so off we couldn't give it any more chances. We paid for the Unagi and the Volcano and left. The portion size for each is two pieces, ranging from $1 - $6. We paid $10 for just four pieces!
It's a shame because Sushi Envy is an attractive, fun looking restaurant with the service being very gracious. However, with the food being so poor I do not seeing this place staying around.
Nice Restaurant – I went to sushi Envy yesterday with my friend. This is a very nice restaurant but too pricy for fast food type sushi. It's $2 a dish but I ended up spending $25 with tips. All you see on the belt is california roll type sushi. The decor is very nice and welcoming. Overall the sushi is just okay and the price is too expensive. I don't know how long these sushi being made and sitting on the belt. Honestly, I don't think I will be back again.
There are many rolls with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and we have a full menu with over 60 items placed directly in front of our customers and strongly encourage ordering any items they want. This menu includes sushi, hand wraps, appetizers, warships, and specialty rolls. We also have Sashimi and fried rice platters. The point of a conveyor belt restaurant is to make sushi affordable and convenient. Here the advantage is trying every type of roll for just $2 a plate. Normally customers only eat about 6 plates pp, so in actuality spends about $12 for a sushi meal! 2/3 of our menu is part of the $2 offer and so therefore, there are more than "just California rolls" being offered at our restaurant. We pride ourselves on our food quality. Items are pulled from the belt after a certain time and kept on ice packs. There is no "old" sushi coming to you. We have items for every type of taste from those who are just starting to explore the world of sushi to those who are sushi experts.
