Tips for Springcreek Community Church

January 25, 2013

Springcreek Church is a wonderful, community orientated church. There is a very diverse group of people attending services each week, you can show up dressed to the nine's, or in a t-shirt and jeans and no one makes you feel out of place. You'll see biker dudes next to little grey haired ladies and to me, that's as it should be. Yes, it's a BIG church, so you can get a little lost in the crowd if you're shy. But if you have kids, hang out by the playground in front after service, and you'll meet plenty of other parents or grandparents to talk to. If you don't have kids, just hang out anyway, get a coffee, put a smile on your face and get ready.

Contrary to another reviewer here, I reached out to one of the pastors when my family had a crisis, and he not only contacted me back right away, but he put me in touch with someone else that could help us in that particular area. We were not even members at that time.

You always hear messages about love at this church. Love God, love your neighbor...and how we're called as Christians to give to the poor and those around us with less or nothing. And it's not messages about giving to the CHURCH to do that (they do not pass the plate during service, there are free standing "giving kiosks" to do so, if you feel led), but how to reach out yourself and make a difference.

There's no "awkward parts" like in some traditional churches, like altar calls or shaking your neighbors hand. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course, we did it for years at the other church, it's just some aren't comfortable with that and this church is a good place to be if you feel that way.

Look up some services on their website and see for yourself. Then go visit and prepare to fall in love.

Churches aren't perfect, but we aren't either.

Springcreek Church Dissapointing. WWJD? He would not go to Springcreek Chruch in Garland. Staff is unfriendly and pastor Keith Stewart is pompous and arrogant. Perhaps because I'm Hispanic I did not feel welcome here. I'm still waiting for a response to an urgent e-mail I wrote to the church about a friend in DIRE need of guidance and spiritual help. She received nothing. I'm very dissapointed I didn't even receive a reply even if it was a "we don't help non church members." I really don't know why I thought this church could help but I initially felt they were progressive and would not be a typical bible belt whites only congregation.

Garland has a huge Hispanic and black population but you never see very many minorities here and now I know why. Out of the 24 listed so called "leaders" on their website, only one has a Hispanic sounding name. Shame on you Springcreek. You dissapoint to the fullest.
