Plano >AALAM THE SALON.... Plano,Frisco,North Dallas Texas
Really top hairdresser in Dallas,
For a person that dislikes getting their hair done and that rarely gives compliments, my visit to Aalam the salon was a breath of fresh air. I have been to another well-known hairdressers, where I experienced stuffiness, rudeness and no care for the customer. Mansour was completely different. I found him really pleasant, humorous and respectful. I do not have the best hair, but he was not at all condescending about it. He was a little late with my appointment, which was no biggie for me as the weather was bad and I expected to wait. However, he was extremely apologetic, and gave me 20% off!
What I loved the most is the attention he gave to the hairstyle that I wanted. He made a point of sitting with me beforehand to see what I wanted in my haircut. I'm very particular, but he was receptive to that. I had a lot of requests on how and what to do with my hair. Nothing was a problem for him and he accommodated all the requests. The final result of my haircut? Great! It was exactly what I wanted and he cut and blow-dried my hair - not like other high-profile stylists who get a junior to blow dry. I thought it was value for money for what I got. Mansour himself brightened my day with his humour. Finally found a great stylist!
I think this place has a really good publicist b/c its not as great as the reviews state. Let's start with the salon experience. The receptionist up front is pretty snobby. I think he thinks he's working at a salon in Highland Park or Beverly Hills. Never offered a beverage and just didn't get a warm feeling. The stylist and colorist talk a good game but their skill level just didn't meet. I had one of the owners ( the snobby receptionist told me he was the best) cut my hair and the layers were not blended and was left with a lot of weight in my hair. I asked for my hair to be round brushed and he flat ironed it saying he was running behind. I literally could style my hair 10 times better!! The girl that did my color was sweet but didn't do what I wanted. I am left with thin lines of blonde in my hair. Since my hair is dark brown it really stands out! It looks like someone drew lines in my hair. Not blended and some strands are a combo of blonde and orange. Seemed like it didn't process long enough. I just got the sense that everyone was lazy and preoccupied. Don't think I will be going back.
A Experience!. I've used the same hair dresser/salon for 10 years. I've been pretty happy but knew it was time for a change. I found AALAM online. Called for an appt. The receptionist said, "Johnny will be cutting your hair." I also had what they call "grey blending" as I'm 47 and obviously greying." Long and short; Probably the best haircut I have ever had, and Johnny was outstanding on all accounts. I was a bit concerned that he may be pretentious, etc considering the salon. He was quite the opposite: down-to-earth, easy going, easy to talk to and super concerned that my hair looked like I wanted it to. He's zero attitude and all skill; very meticulous. I rarely if ever write reviews, and I recommend him without reservation. If you're looking for "the best" then stop looking and starting calling Johnny at AALAM. Oh yea, he's at the top of the haircut price range for men, but the look and outcome are worth every penny. Give Johnny a try. You'll be glad you did!
A bit overrated in my experience.
Yes, this salon has won D Mag's Readers' Choice twice in a row (2010 and 2011) but I don't think it is all that by a long shot.
The cuts I got there were precise and reasonably stylish. However, my stylist (Mansour) is not really great at listening. I said I didn't really like my hair to be too styled (I prefer a more natural look) - didn't happen; I also said I liked my hair to show its natural wave - that, too, didn't happen. He slaved away with round brushes for close to an hour until you could have skated on my hair, it was so slick. I said I wanted my hair shorter (notice the "er"), he even asked me how much shortER and I thought we were clear on that. Well - we obviously weren't. I ended up with a haircut short enough for a guy.
What do you say after that? Please pick up the strands from the floor and re-attach?! I said nothing, paid and left because it wouldn't have made a difference...
But I won't be back. It has been a long time since I have been that unhappy with my hair, and it's not even because of the quality of the cut but because I simply got what he thought I should get. Never mind that I am the one who has to live with this buzz cut now for weeks and weeks until it's long enough to risk another haircut somewhere else.
At Aalam, they are way too convinced that they are the greatest and sadly, they are not. Though their prices certainly are right up there with the best... :-(
Aalam the salon Top rated hair salon in North Dallas & Plano.
You know there is a reason this salon won the best hair salons in Dallas by D magazine Readers two years in a row 2010 & 2011. Can this many people people be wrong? I think not. Again I have to thank D Magazine for pointing me in the right direction to get my hair done the way I want. I had a stylist in New York for over 6 years. We had a relationship. Then I moved to Dallas, Texas and I had to find someone new. In a city with countless hair salons this proved to be no easy task and after some disappointing results, I turned to D magazine website to help me out, and I found Mansour at Aalam Salon.??Mansour did a really good job on my hair. He patiently listened to me as I tried to recreate what my old stylist used to do and pretty much recreated what I used to look like. It was really great and I'm really happy that I found a place I know I can go and get what I want. His prices are also extremely reasonable considering the quality of the work. Go here. You will not regret it.
I also loved the hair products that Mansor used on my Hair, It made huge different on my hair, It
BEST HAIR SALON EXPERIENCE IN DALLAS TX - best hair stylist. I just got back from what was one of the best salon experiences I have had, ever. I will be back in 6-8 weeks, and here is the secret why AALAM the salon has won 2 awards, 2 years in a row for best hair salon in Dallas from D-Magazine readers
BAD WITH KIDS. I took my 10 year old son to see a guy for a hair cut. Not only was the man noticably unconfortable with children, he snipped my childs ear with the scissors. The guy was not quick acting to get a towel to catch the blood, another guy went to get bandages while he just stood there unhelpful. I was not appologized to or my fee discounted. Instead I have a child with a new phobia of getting his hair cut.
At AALAM The Salon, our reputation is very important to us. We strive to give each of our customers the highest level of service and skill so that they leave our salon feeling and looking their best each and every time they visit. Our mission has served us well as we received the honor of being named 2010 Best Hair Salon in Dallas TX by the readers of D Magazine. We have been nominated again in that same category for 2011. The review above concerns us as it is an attack on our salon, our stylists, and the very reputation we continue to work so hard to achieve.
We are positive the above situation never happened at AALAM The Salon. We did not cut this child's hair. We hope this review doesn't confuse readers. We invite you in to experience AALAM The Salon for yourself. And we look forward to serving the Dallas community for years to come. AALAM The Salon / Creative Director / Mansour Aalam
OMG, I am a total snob wannabe (wannabe because I love spendy things I cannot afford. Sighhhh, my poor husband.) Hence, I made an appointment here after hearing they won D Magazine's 'Best Salon.'
FINALLY, Plano gets a pretentious salon all our own. No more driving down to Highland Park for me. YAY!!! By pretentious I mean; Aalam is fancy schmancy. The salon's decor is beautiful but Johnnie (cut) & Sherry (color) are AMAZING! Because honestly, it's all about the stylist... not the salon. Johnnie gave me the best cut I've had in a lonnnnggggg time. He spent a good amount of time talking to me about exactly what I wanted & didn't cut too much off. Stylists at other salons half-listen to what I want, then do what they want. Not Johnnie! I love, love, love the cut he gave me. He is also a very pleasant, well traveled & interesting person to talk to.
Now about Sherry; She really took the time to look at my color & figure out what would flatter my skin tone the best. She gave me beautiful 'fine' (not chunky... vomit!) blonde highlights & darker lowlights. She put more foils in my hair than any colorist has done in years. She spent over two hours just putting the foils in. The results are stunning. I couldn't be happier. Even my husband was impressed with the new color she gave me.
Let me just say, Aalam IS spendy; however, it is the best cut & color I've had in years & worth every dollar. Aalam deserves ten stars for being top notch. They really pamper you when you're here. From the impeccable service, to the relaxing head massage at the sink, to the warm towel around your neck, to the fancy hair products like: Shu Uemura, Kerastase & Bumble & Bumble. That's why D Magazine gave them 'Best Salon.'
Aalam, you go above and beyond. Thank you!
Take THAT Highland Park!!!!

Mansour is a mind-reader. I booked with Mansour after reading such great reviews about him here at AALAM salon. And I'm so glad I did. He started off giving me such a precise haircut , which gave me much better shape to my hair. But beyond that, he did exactly what a great hair dresser does - he translated the little things I liked into phenomenal style without me having to be explicit about every little thing. Furthermore (and this is why I really say he's a mind reader) is while he was cutting my hair he suggested going a few inches shorter, something I've always wanted to do, but never had the balls to. Best choice ever -- everybody loves it and more importantly, I love it. He introduced me to one the colorist named Karen for my color, She suggested to me going couple of shades darker would suit my overall look better, she was absolutely right !. Overall my experience at AALAM was phenomenal. From the moment I made my appointment to when I walked out the entire staff was highly professional, friendly and helpful. I can't wait for my next visit! Thanks!
Great hair stylist,Best colorist, simply the best Experience. Since i moved to Dallas from LA over a year ago, i had yet to find a salon I was happy with...until now. A weeks ago, I was in a pinch to get my haircut and hair color and gave AALAM a call. They didn't have any appointments available until the end of the following week but took down my information anyway, in case they could get me in sooner. Less than an hour later they called me and took me in the same week. If that doesn't scream customer service, i don't know what does. When I arrived, I was in awe of how amazing the interior looked; very upscale and clean. I was introduced to my colorist and I instantly got along with her. She made me feel comfortable, gave me a ton of color tips and of course an absolutely fantastic highlights. Naser was my hair stylist. This guy can really cut hair. My hair cut and color gave me so much more confidence. I'm really glad I found this place! The prices are more than fair for what you get, the customer service is outstanding, great products for sale, expertise and you can tell that everyone that works here loves working with hair. There is nothing more you could ask for in a salon. I will be coming back here again and again!
