Heard museum offers a fun place for children to learn about different animals and have a hands on experience. It is a self guided trip around the museum which is inside and then you can go on a short walk and even enjoy a picnic lunch if you desire. I find them a little expensive for the length of the visit but something worth while doing at least once.

The Heard Natural Science Museum offers families a fun opportunity to get back to nature. Interactive indoor exhibits teach children about conservation and invite them to explore the plants and animals of north Texas. Don't expect to hear, I'm bored! The museum features captivating exhibits on the venomous snakes of Texas, fossils, seashells, rocks and minerals. Upcoming improvements include a fossil dig, a living lab (that allows children to handle specimens and use scientific tools), and a cave geology display. In addition to all of the fun inside the museum, you can take a day or night hike through over four miles of nature trail, and can observe various birds and animals being rehabilitated to return to the wild. PROS: Family friendly, affordable, educational, groups, custom tours available CONS:
