In Short – The Heard Museum is designed to enhance a child's appreciation and understanding of nature, conservation and art. Established in 1967, the museum features more than a dozen permanent exhibit areas including collections of seashells, gems and minerals. There are also live animal exhibits inside and outside the museum. The 289-acre wildlife sanctuary protects more than 240 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and close to 150 species of wildflowers and other plants.

Know Before You Go:
Food and picnics are welcome along the nature trail, but pets are not allowed.
When to Go:
Weekend guided trails are available for families and individuals at 2pm, Saturday-Sunday from September to mid-July on a first come, first served basis.
