Editorial Review for McKinney Avenue Tavern – by Cheryl Ng Collett
In Short
When a game is on, Uptowners sporting their favorite team jerseys and caps crowd the place. Televisions affixed everywhere (including the patio) ensure that patrons needn't miss a touchdown or a slam dunk. American pub grub like buffalo wings, seven different types of burgers including a hickory BBQ burger and Philly cheesesteak sandwiches are favorites of the house. Extensive beer and spirits menu keep thirsty fans happy all game long. Service is fast and friendly.

Fantastic place to hang out and watch uptown go by. I frequent the MAT, as people in uptown know this bar, and I would have to vehemently disagree with the previous reviewer about the food. The burgers are huge, I 'm a big eater, and I usually can't finish one, and they're fantastic. They do good food, not gourmet, and they do it big. Where else can you get a pizza with unlimited toppings for one price? We did weekend brunch there this past Saturday, and the food was fantastic, and as a bonus it's all you can eat! The Migas were some of the best I've had, and we'll be back again this weekend. Service can be slow on days when 300 people are packed into a place designed for 150, but there's a reason people love to pack this place out. The waitresses are hot, and helpful, the bartenders are also great. Get to know them, and they'll remember you and treat you like "Norm" on Cheers. It's nice to be treated like a regular, even when you only come in a couple of times a month. If you like beer, they have a pretty good draft selection, not just the usual stuff, and their prices are in line with, or lower than some of the other places in Uptown. It sounds like the previous two reviewers had a bad day or something when they went. The MAT is one of our stops in Uptown, and it will continue to be. I hope the other reviewers will give it another chance, and realize what a great place it really is, heck, find me and I'll buy you a beer!
Pros: Fantastic TVs, great cameraderie on game days
Cons: Can be slow on busy days

Definitely would NOT recommend this place. The food was HORRIBLE and the wait staff was less than impressive. I hang out in uptown all of the time and like to try different places. However, this is one place that I will not be returning to.
Pros: Lots of tv's
Cons: I wouldn't feed their food to my dogs
