Editorial Review for Uptown Mood Spa – by Jenner Bishop

The Scene
Dallas' historic Uptown District hosts this gem of a retreat. Interior design is simple and striking--kept clean and sharp by adhering to a color scheme of black and creamy ivory. This converted house is a tad cozy, but the floor plan is part of the spa's appeal. There's a conspiratorial charm to being sequestered away just a stone's throw from fashionable McKinney Avenue--all in the name of ample massaging and moisturizing. The sunlit front room contains retail products, including Mood Spa's popular essential oil, "Uninhibited."

The Services
Most massages use Mood's proprietary aromatherapy oils. For radiant skin from head to toe, two exfoliating massages begin with a scrub--patrons choose sea-salt crystals with lavender oil, or the spa's Texas Pecan Peppermint Sugar Scrub. Soaks in the hydrotherapy tub can be prepared with medicinal ingredients designed to target symptoms of sore muscles, colds and flus, PMS and menopause.

The Details
Massage, body treatments, facials, hair removal, manicure/pedicure.

I scheduled an appointment for a massage and a facial. During my massage, I could hear a conversation outside the room and a dog barking. The "relaxing" music kept going off and on, and the room was very cold. The girl who was giving me the massage kept moving a chair and making a very loud noise. She was not very friendly nor talented . I decided not to get a facial. I was told they were still going to charge me 50% (they obtain your credit card info. at the time you schedule an appointment). I usually to to Riviera Spa, but I wanted to try something different. I now realize that was a huge mistake!! I told the owner how unsatisfied I was, paid, and left ASAP!!!!!

Pros: Can't recall any!!!

Cons: Bad service, bad atmosphere, bad experience!

It was a great experience! I got a Hot Stone Massage and it was very relaxing. Although they were remolding, it still was enjoyable. My friend got the Texas Buff and Polish and her skin was glowing. It was not our first massage and we both agree that the treatments were one of the best we ever recieved. They were so friendly. We plan on going back in the near futre.

Pros: remodeling, rooms are cold

Cons: very relaxing, good massage
