Editorial Review for Mi Cocina – by Holly Hickman

The Scene
This location is easily the best of the chain and looks deceptively small. Chic art deco and contemporary decor surround a copper column that splashes three stories up to the ceiling. Unlike most places, the bar is on the third floor, enticing guests to dig in before they drink. Lots of bright paint and natural lighting boost the mood, even before the excellent food crops up.

The Food
Tortilla chips here are crisp, but not greasy. For some, the salsa may be on the hot side of delicious. The caldo xochitl is a perfect starter, spiking chicken broth with cilatro and garbanzo beans. Succulent fajitas hit the spot with just the right amount of seasoning and plenty of lime. Rice is fluffy and beans are creamy but not overly rich. Servings are generous, but not overwhelming. Tender chopped pork and fresh vegetables fills a crunchy, perfect corn taco.

Insider Tips

Where to Sit

If the first floor feels a bit crowded, venture upstairs to some of the second floor tables.

Know Before You Go

The real bar is upstairs, but a smaller one on the first floor will tide patrons over with beer while they await their tables.

Look Good

On a date? Impress with the flan--light, rich, and not overly eggy.

Any good night must always start with a tasty margarita... and these folks have got it down. Between the Mambo Taxi and the Mambo #5, one or two willl have you smiling! To top it off, the service is always impeccable, and the food is great as well. Any night of the week, you can come in and have a great experience... but Fridays and Saturdays, expect a wait!

Pros: Mambo Taxi, personable service

Cons: the crowd
