The Scene – Heaps of young professionals and nostalgic Brits haunt this appealing Henderson Avenue tavern, a candlelit, intimate place with loads of Old-World charm. Inside, it's all cozy nooks and crannies, with worn wooden tables, exposed-brick walls covered with beer posters and tin signs, and a handsome back bar straight from a British chemist's shop. Service is generally fast and friendly, even on the two patio spaces (one enclosed), which fill up quickly on warm nights. – – The Draw – Offering 15 beers on tap (from Harp and Bass to Belgian faves Chimay White and…

The perfect place to let a friend cry on your shoulder...

2/28/2011 The Old Monk: Dallas
I stopped into this East Dallas tradtion completely by chance. A very good friend of mine was trying to
medicate the pain of the loss of a very good freind, and invited me along for the ride. I have been
here once or twice, as a bartender on the strip, who met other friends for a cold pint, and good food.
The Old Monk is a fixture in East Dallas. The same way college students watch old Bruce Lee films and listen to Vietnam era protest songs while delving through the intricate nature of politics and medicine.
This bar/grill should be listed as the number one spot for any traveler in need of a cold pint and good company. I recommend the ice cold Blue Moon, and possible shot of Tuaca with Red Bull. The staff are amazing here. And they make it a point to welcome, road weary travelers like myself with a laurel and a hearty handshake.

Good beer, good food.

Went here Wednesday night for the first time. The patio was definitely the place to be and filled up quickly. The beer is of course great but I was surprised by how good the food was. Definitely plan on going back soon!
Great Happy Hour Place
by intodeep at Citysearch
This is a great place overall for anybody going out for a happy hour or night out. I generally go for happy hour with coworkers. Our groups range anywhere from 4-30 people. These are the happy hours that are more like happy 5:00pm to midnight. The atmosphere is very laid back, and the music is generally good. They serve a wide variety of import beers or any mixed drinks. The food menu has variety, which mostly consist of bar food taken to the next level. I recommend the burgers.
The best part about The Old Monk is the bar and wait staff. Even at their busiest moments, I still get drinks quickly and great service all around.
It would be nice to see more live music at The Old Monk, particulary anything acoutic, but with the limited space they have it's probably best to stick to playing CDs.
- Pros: great beers, great burgers, attentive service staff
- Cons: hard to get a table when busy

Best Beer Selection / Great Burgers
by idontwantamembername at Citysearch
This is the only place I think about when I'm in Dallas. They have the best beer selection that I've seen of any bar or restaurant in the city (mmmm...Chimay White on tap), and the food is hard to beat. Their "Better Cheeseburger" comes with a choice of several "gourmet" cheeses, including sage derby, stilton, chevrion, bruder basil, and whiskey cheddar (my favorite). Other tasty delights include the Guinness beef stew, crispy, belgian-style frites served with terragon mayo, and 5-6 different styles of oysters. I hear the bread pudding will make you cream your shorts, but I've never had it myself.
The atmosphere inside is very inviting, with dark woods and plenty of old beer relics to gaze at after you've had that 4th Maredsous 10 (one of the many delicious bottled beers they serve). The 2 patios are very popular and fill up fast when the weather is nice. Overall, the service has always been great for me, but I always end up with the same waitress so it's hard to speak about the wait staff as a whole.
The only downside is that parking can be difficult and the place fills up quickly...but there always seems to be a table open near the dartboard (if you're feeling risky). Listen to me closely...close your browser , turn off the computer, and go to the Old Monk now! A few beers and a burger later, you'll be glad you did.
- Pros: Great Beer Selection, Tasty Burgers, Inviting Atmosphere
- Cons: Parking, lots of trendy people
