The old hangout. Great college hangout. We (my group of friends) spent many an evening here. Great bar. Great music. Great people. Every now and then, some of us will meet up here. Very relaxing and unpretentious. Nicely-priced drinks and usually a bit on the strong side. :)
College hangout next door to its sister grill house serves up a mighty beer selection and a trendy band or two..
The Scene
Walk through the front door, and the small stage is right in front of you: groupies of up-and-coming bands congregate here. The joint itself is murky and hollow: On one side of the narrow strip is the bar, on the other side, another long row for sitting and sipping. Video games and a pool table add to the chill vibe, while a cigarette machine, a Willie Nelson photo at the bar, and posters like "The Mind of the Unabomber" complete the picture.
The Draw
The relaxed atmosphere, the possibility of grub in the next room (the East Side Grill) and a mix of local acts may attract some folks, but the real draw is the staggering selection of beer: Barley House has more than 60 types from around the world on tap. And every summer, the place hosts an all-day concert fest called "Barleypalooza."
