Dallas >Dunston's Steakhouse & Bar
Dunston's! Where you better like our food or ELSE!. Unfortunately I was witness to this spectacle at Dunstons today (see honeegyrl's post). I feel sorry for the ladies who ordered the chicken. The way in which they were treated was completely uncalled for, and just down right rude. Our employees were repeat customers as we had lunch together there previously and we were all looking forward to it. We experienced rude service from the moment we walked into the restaurant until the time we left. I wasn't even able to finish my meal after I witnessed the server, the cook AND the owner scold one of my coworkers the way she did. What a shame.
Undignified Service/Servers...all because of.
I will never forget my experience at Dunston's Steakhouse on Lover's Lane. After sending back obviously spoiled chicken breast- I was REPRIMANDED (several times) by the cook, the server, and to my ultimate disappointment the owner, Judy Dunston. I was told that "there is nothing wrong with our chicken." Ms. Dunston continued by stating that she had 15 other orders for chicken breast that day void of complaint. This seemed rather impossible since the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived for our 11:45 reservation.
As though this weren't insulting enough, I was expected to explain why I didn't like the chicken--to which Ms. Dunston replied, "Well, why did you order it?" She continued by saying "I've already lost money on YOU!" I was speechless and she was spitting mad (yes, over a piece of chicken). With her servers in tow, the owner walked away from our table...and did not return.
I was in such a state of disbelief that I could not leave without expressing my disappointment. I began to calmly assess their service from my point-of-view. She rudely interrupted me by repeating the same sentiments (yep, the chicken), referencing the economy, and vainly referring to herself in 3rd person (You're about to "tick" Judy Dunston off!). This poor poor woman could not see beyond a piece of rubbery, spoiled chicken in order to realize the a value in a happy customer(s). Dunston's Steakhouse is a waste of your appetite, time, money, but most of all your dignity.
Worst customer service I have ever seen! And the food is poor quality at best..
I have just witnessed the single most appalling display of customer service ineptitude.
My fellow coworkers and I went to Dunstons for lunch. Most of ordered the steak, however two opted for the grilled chicken. Both found the chicken?s taste to be ?off? and possibly spoiled. One opted to send it back to get something else. She called for the waitress and told her she did not like the chicken. The waitress seemed to take this reaction personally and informed my coworker that there was nothing wrong with the chicken. She sent over the cook who had a similar reaction stating there was nothing wrong with the chicken. The cook stormed off and then the owner Judy Dunston came to the table. When my coworker calmly stated again that she did not like the chicken, Mrs. Dunston then berated my coworker stating ?there is nothing wrong with our chicken.? ?Many people have ordered the chicken today? and she invited my coworker to see the computer to view that for herself. She also asked ?Why did you order the chicken? and stated ?I?ve already lost money on you?. Mrs. Dunston did not offer her another meal; she left the table and did not return.
My fellow coworkers and I were astounded at this display of utter disrespect and from a ?service? industry no less! After most of us left, my coworker stayed behind to speak again to the owner. I am told that Mrs. Dunston continued to stand by her chicken stating again that ?there is nothing wrong with the chicken?; ?you wasted a perfectly good meal.? When my coworker continued to stand her ground, Mrs. Dunston then stated ?You are about to pi$$ off Judy Dunston!?
Needless to say we will go back there again. However I feel compelled to share this experience with others lest anyone else incur the wrath of ?Judy Dunston? over a piece of chicken.
Rudest experience I have ever witnessed!!. I am lucky enough to work for a company that takes us out to eat for lunch on occasion. Today we were being treated to steaks at Dunston?s Steakhouse, and not for the first time. Two co-workers ordered chicken, both of which said it tasted funny, like it was spoiled. One of them tried to send it back and get something edible. Well the server huffed about it and said she?d have to get the manager. The manager, who happened to be the owner Judy Dunston herself, came over with an attitude that I have never witnessed in any service oriented establishment in my life! She was beyond rude, repeatedly saying that there was ?Nothing wrong with the chicken!? and ?Why did you order it then?!? When she asked if she could just have something else Judy threw a fit about how she was ?Already losing money? on her!! Dunston?s lost more then the cost of a chicken breast today! Our table of ten most likely would have ordered dessert, and even returned again. After today, we will not ever be going back there for our company lunches! We were all so flabbergasted by Judy?s antics that we will all be passing around the word not to eat there to our family, friends, and YOU!
Bring out the steak (misteak) sauce and it will be ok. Dunston's on Lovers Lane is proof positive that you get what you pay for. If you're looking to step back in time, have a steak with A-1 steak sauce poured over it and a bowl of iceberg lettuce, then this is your steak house! We knew what we were in for and didn't mind, until my 10 oz filet arrived with soggy BACON wrapped around it. I asked the manager if I should have been able to see anywhere on the menu that this filet came with bacon on it (the nightly special said so, the menu did NOT), and he not only did not apologize, but rolled his eyes and practically shouted at me that yes, that filet comes with bacon. He was very rude. I can't imagine ordering a filet in the usual prime steakhouses we frequent arriving with bacon! The high-end places don't need to disguise a boring cut of meat!
good experience. in town for cotton bowl. We were looking for great food, nice atmosphere. Don't care about the price. Called Bob's, chamberlains, and every other steakhouse we had heard of in Dallas. They all had a set menu for new year's and a late sit down time. So we called Dunston's....had also heard about it. Didn't have a fixed menu...could get us in at 7:30. The guys wanted steak. Instead of paying $85.00 for prime steak...per person...we paid less than half that and got prime steak cooked to perfection. The recommended au gratin potatoes were cubed potatoes immersed in cheez whiz, so we were disappointed in those. The rolls were light and fluffy, warm and good. The Caesar salad was fine. The interior was very nice...but this is a family steakhouse, not the ambience that we were looking for. ...but still nice. But the important thing was...the steaks...prime steaks, aged and cooked to perfection for every order. At less than half the price we would have paid at the other steakhouses in town. We were happy. Order the baked potato and it's fine. Oh....and our waitress was adorable, friendly and in a great mood! All good.
Great food at a good price.... Our favorite family style steak house in Fort Worth recently closed, so my wife, mother, sister, 5yo great-nephew, and I ventured to Dunston's for our Saturday evening meal. We all had a great time, great food and great service. We were seated immediately, our waitress [Stephanie] was friendly and attentive and the meal was above our expectations. If you are seeking a great meal at a good price, drive to the intersection of Harry Hines and Regal Row in Dallas for one of the best deals in the DFW area.
