Nearly 100 years old, this place keeps roping people in with its vintage vibe, authentic atmosphere and outstanding live music acts..
The Scene
Built in 1911, this dance hall books the real thing: milk-fed, God-fearing, unadulterated country performers. The joint is big on supporting Texas acts, and the folks who come for music and longnecks ain't afraid to hoof it across the hardwood dance floor. The long downstairs bar, jukebox, pool tables and shuffle board keep the rest of the place busy--but the tiny upstairs stage, with its foldout chairs and velvet curtains, is where the real magic happens.
The Draw
The music's the thing here, with past performers from the Dixie Chicks, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Austin Lounge Lizards to Charlie Robison and Gillian Welch. The hall has branched out a bit, embracing acoustic jams on Thursday nights. It's open to "all pickers, singers, grinners and listeners." Wednesday nights feature swing dancing and lessons at 9pm, and on Tuesday nights, songwriters share and croon at the open mic.
