In Short
Diners fill their treys with help from the cheerful staff and pay at the end of the counter at this rustic restaurant with a college sports flair. The wooden walls and ceiling feature Texas college flags, hunting trophies and other memorabilia. The two dining rooms have booths and tables with checkered table tops. Meat choices include brisket, pork, ribs, sausage, chicken and turkey with sides like potato salad, cole slaw and beans.

Having lived in Dallas for nearly all of my 28 years, I've been to many very good bbq places...and Back Country BBQ is unfortunately not one of them. It is beyond me how this place has been voted best bbq in Dallas. Its almost a stretch to call it the best bbq between the 6900 and 7000 block of Greenville. The ribs were tasteless, the brisket was dry and the bbq sauce did indeed, as one earlier reviewer noted, taste like liquid smoke mixed with ketchup and vinegar. The potato salad tasted like it was bought from a grocery store's deli counter and then blended to achieve undesirable pebble sized potato chunks, the okra was horribly breaded and the mashed potatoes were very obviously instant. And don't get me started on the little things, like the ketchup that was so old it physically separated when squirted out of the bottle, the middle aged guy behind the counter who went out of his way to be rude to his only two customers (despite the fact that nobody was waiting in line), and the iced tea that was so old it had already started to taste like nestea. It doesn't take much imagination to figure out why there were only five customers, including us, at the place at 7pm on a weekend night. If anyone is looking for good bbq in Dallas, please try elsewhere - do not go to this place expecting the best and definitely do not think that this is the best that Dallas has to offer. Go to Sammy's, Peggy Sue's, Baker's. Heck, go to a bbq chain restaurant...Dickey's, Spring Creek, Colter's....they're all far better than this place. I hate to say such things about what clearly is a mom & pap operation, but this place just does not deserve to be in a conversation when discussing the best bbq in town. They could be good though - change the bbq sauce to something with at least a little viscosity and flavor, keep the meat moist, leave some chunks in the potato salad and drop some customer service pointers to the guy behind the counter (first impression do matter, after all).
Pros: Plenty of parking ?????
Cons: the BBQ, the sides and the drinks.

Wow, daddy whoever must have been having a bad day or isn't a true Texan. Back Country is my all time favorite restaurant. I eat there at least twice a week. They are consistently good, which isn't easy to find around here. They have the best beef brisket and pork ribs I have ever eaten. Their vegetables are all out of this word especially their cole slaw, potato salad, cream spinach and their famous backed potato casserole. If you are in the mood for some down home Texas style bbq you definitely should give them a try, you wont regret it !!!!
