What People Are Saying About Back Country BBQ

Featured Review

In Short – Diners fill their treys with help from the cheerful staff and pay at the end of the counter at this rustic restaurant with a college sports flair. The wooden walls and ceiling feature Texas college flags, hunting trophies and other memorabilia. The two dining rooms have booths and tables with checkered table tops. Meat choices include brisket, pork, ribs, sausage, chicken and turkey with sides like potato salad, cole slaw and beans.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Be sure to add some freshly-made barbecue sauce on your plate while in line because there's none on the tables.

Mashed potato casserole to DIE for!!!

by skylarkolfax at Citysearch

1st of all, "daddymigs": You're an idiot!! I'm glad they didn't get your review in 1976 or they may not have survived for LONGER THAN YOU'VE BEEN ON EARTH!!!

If you know so much about barbecue, why don't YOU own a restaurant to share your infinite bbq expertise with society?

Glad to see you know what ALPO tastes like too. That's always comforting to know that someone who hates the food of a restaurant that he's giving a bad review to eats DOG FOOD REGULARLY!!!

What an idiot.!!!!! Nice review, STUPID!!!!

Still lovin it!

by yogieo at Citysearch

I have been coming here for years and it is still the best bbq I have had here. I love the down home enviorment and the fact that this has always been family owned. I have been to a few of the chain bq places and must say the way to make great bbq is not in a cookie cutter fashion. They actually showed me the ovens nce. It;s amazing what goes into making great bbq, because anyone can make 'good' bbq. Try this place for catering too, they have this huge bbq out front that they will bring to yur party or just wrap it up to go. Two thumbs up on this bbq place. BBQ lovers unite!

  • Pros: just plain good bbq
  • Cons: only one.

Best BBQ in Texas

by mellyp at Citysearch

Wow, daddy whoever must have been having a bad day or isn't a true Texan. Back Country is my all time favorite restaurant. I eat there at least twice a week. They are consistently good, which isn't easy to find around here. They have the best beef brisket and pork ribs I have ever eaten. Their vegetables are all out of this word especially their cole slaw, potato salad, cream spinach and their famous backed potato casserole. If you are in the mood for some down home Texas style bbq you definitely should give them a try, you wont regret it !!!!

You have got to be kidding me

by daddymigs at Citysearch

Worst dining experience I've ever had. The guy behind the counter was overtly rude - and I mean rude. Seemed like he was offended at his lot in life - which is being a fat ,ugly, bald 50 something cutting meat for a twenty something that obviously knows a ton more about bbq than he does. We should have walked out then, but I wanted to try the bbq - big mistake. The brisket had no flavor whatsoever - I guess these people haven't ever heard of rub...It wasn't seasoned AT ALL. Just meat. What? The sausage actually tasted like Alpo (yes, that's dog food) - I'm not sure how they managed that. The sauce tasted like liquid smoke mixed with ketchup and vinegar. The beens tasted like they were straight out of a can, with a cup of brown sugar added. I love bbq, but couldn't stomach this awful food. At least my dogs got a treat out of this debacle.

This is not bbq, people. Real Texas bbq involves a stack of white bread, some cheddar cheese, pickles, onions, and meat that is actually seasoned and smoked on mesquite.

If you want a rude waiter, go to D's Last Resort. If you want bbq, go to literally any other bbq joint in town - trust me, it will be better.

  • Pros: none at all - avoid this place like the plague
  • Cons: pretty much everything. worst bbq I've ever tasted, and terrible service to boot!

BEST BBQ IN TEXAS!

by jdgonzales at Citysearch

It's NOT even close. This place has the best BBQ in TEXAS!! Some guy wrote in that he would not take his date there because he thought there wasn't enough ambience. Dude, if you want ambience take your date to the Ghost Bar @ Hotel W. If you want to know where the BEEF is, shake some tail to Back Country. Our Jesuit Alumni Assn. has has about 4 parties there in the last 18 months and we are scheduled again for September. The guys AND dates loved it! Lots of parking, TV's to watch some sports and great service. JD

  • Pros: GREAT FOOD.
