Best Pork Chops Ever! – Gorji taught me how to make the most succulent pork chop I have ever eaten. In one of his cooking classes he showed us how to put big thick pork chops in the microwave for a few seconds after grilling to make sure that the center is not rare. That way you can still have a thick, juicy chop, but you don't have to worry about the pork not being cooked in the center. Before learning this wonderful technique I was burning and cooking my pork to death. He does not microwave all his meat as one commenter implied. He doesn't use this technique on beef because you don't have to worry about beef being rare, in fact many of us prefer it that way. Any cooking method can destroy vitamins and nutrients in food. That is why the Raw Eats movement is around with restaurants which serve raw food. Gorji taught us that the microwave is one tool of many in the kitchen, good for some things, not for others. He uses many innovative techniques and the proof is in his delicious dishes that we keep going back for again and again.
Really?????? – Some of the food is actually quite good BUT ever since he mentioned(actually bragged) that he microwaves his meat, I've been rather leery. A visit to my physician confirmed my concerns. Microwaving kills the nourishment in our foods. It's a disservice that he does this, especially at these prices. Also, I really don't like his condescending tone. I've seen it come across worse with other diners than he's done to me. It is his restaurant, so, he can do as he wishes. I just don't believe that I'll be going back.
If you do go, have the hummus and tzatziki. They are among the best I've had. Also, they are severed cold so you don't have to worry about the microwave.
Wonderful Dinner – Superb food, creative chef and friendly service. All in all a quality experience. A great evening.
Can't wait to go back. – Just discovered this place. The steak was great, but the duck appetizer was an unusual and delicious surprise. I understand they always have new specials to try. Great chef, great service. Already looking forward to my next meal there.
Best Dining Experience in 2 years living in DFW – This place is so different than places I have eaten in Dallas. The Owner/Chef is commited to being in his restaurant when the doors are unlocked. Chef Gorji meets every patron and gives you the feel of a great Manhattan restaurant. The food was exceptional. I ate a lamb and quail special that was the absolute best I have had to date. My wife had a tenderloin that should make III Forks feel ashamed to be called a steak house. The price was great, the servers were great, and Chef Gorji's dedication to his Canary Cafe is overwhelmingly apparent. It is hard to find a chef that lives for his restaurant, especially since all the well known ones put a reataurant in every city in the country and have no way of showing the quality that made them great. This was an opportunity to dine with a great chef in his own place. I don't normally complain or compliment, but I can't stop talking about this experience. I will be returning. MAKE RESERVATIONS.
My New Favorite Place – The food is just terrific. They always have some new wonderful special on the weekends. Last week we had a fig salad that was delightful. The lamb is exceptional with the tzatziki and the best humus I've had. They also have some of the best steak around. It's my new place to take clients. It's small, we can talk and they love the atmosphere.
Delightful Dining Experience – We just discovered this charmer a few nights ago. It was a friend's recommendation and we weren't disappointed. It is small and personable with a unique selection of foods and wines. I had a wonderful trout dish and my husband was pleasantly surprised and pleased by the Veal Il ton on the menu. We are looking forward to our next visit.
What a joke! – Simply not impressed. I decided against my better judgement after reading some poor reviews on this place. Food was simply not quality. Lots of production here but no substance. Will not be returning.
Great Staff Overhyped food – I have passed this establishment many times so decided on a whim to visit the website, I read of the chefs accomplishments and decided to make a go at it. I gathered my wife and some close friends who were visiting one of whom is a very popular chef at a fine NY city establishment ( I only mention this to make one understands there is at least one refined palette at the table) We were greeted with smiles and good evenings our water was refilled at least every 5 minutes, the wine was wonderful, our waitress was knowledgeable... well thats the nice part...
First thing first... I ordered a steak in which was so completely over seasoned it was horrid (this guy actually won the steak cook off... give me a break) the potatoes were practically inedible with enough garlic to choke a Vampire... the others at my table agreed over seasoned, over priced... also Walter(our chef friend) would like to note..You can put a big mac on a square plate add some foofoo garnish and charge 18.00 for it but that doesn't mean it still isn't junk... So there it is.. I will Never eat here again and was embarrassed to have brought friends here,,, Should have realized I can't trust a restaurant located in a strip mall next to a nail place (WHAT WAS I THINKING!) Regardless I don't recommend it... oh and I would also like to note, all you here is the chef in the back yelling at the staff...who does this guy think he is Chef Ramsey?
A warm and cozy gem – I most strongly contradict the venomous one-star reviews below. Those people have very sensitive taste buds and should stay with their shepherd's pie. Many good-natured people love bold flavors and exotic seasonings, and Chef Gorji at the Canary Cafe cooks for us. He also keeps a selection of lovely boutique wines for us. I try to eat there at least once a month and often run into people I've met there before. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable, the ambience is warm and cozy, and the chef cooks every delectable dish personally. His tabouleh is the best I ever ate. The beef anar is probably my favorite dish, followed closely by the lamb and the catfish. The Canary Cafe rules!
