The Scene – Wood paneling and mustard-colored walls are blanketed by vintage commemorative plates; the dim room crammed with comfy leather sofas and bistro tables and chairs. Thirsty patrons belly up to the bar and choose from more than 100 beers on tap. The after-work crowd is 30-something and mostly male, so single ladies may have better odds. – – The Food – Pub grub is a plain, but satisfying, accompaniment to the main attraction--beer. The German platter starter is a smorgasbord of sausages and cheese. Pizza lovers will want to try one of the four specialty pizzas;…

Best Beer Selection in Dallas

by grkchow

I usually don't write reviews, but when I saw the two negative reviews below, I thought I should.

I know nothing about any driver's license scams, but as a recent import to Dallas from Philadelphia, I can tell you that the Flying Saucer is the best place I have found to drink 'good' beer. I realize that Dallas has not jumped on the micro brew/import wave the way much of the rest of the country has, but after going to a number of bars/clubs that only have macrobrew (Coors/Bud/Mich/etc.) swill and Shiner...I came across this one place that is an oasis in an otherwise beer deficient city. I've been there 6 times, and the service was always good. There are about 200 beers available, and the selection changes a bit here and there including seasonals. Happy hour specials are great. Check their website, but I go on Fridays, and it's a tall beer for the price of a pint. Good deal.

I would not recommend the food by the way, but you don't go here for food, you go here for good beer.

Cheers!

  • Pros: Beer, Happy Hour Specials
  • Cons: Can be a bit too many smokers, can get overcrowded

Scam at the front door

by sdallas02

On nights when a Live Band plays here, the Flying Saucer charges a $3 cover at the door. If you do not carry cash (like me), you can leave your drivers license with the doorman and charge the $3 on your tab. DO NOT GIVE THE DOORMAN YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE!

I have been to the Flying Saucer twice this year, and the doorman has "lost" my friend's DL both times. This past Saturday, I know two people who had their drivers license stolen at the front door. How can ID's disappear when they are given to a doorman and stuck in his pocket? Be aware that this restaurant is either monumentally incompetent, or they have a SCAM going on at the front door where they are selling ID?s.

avoid

by aqousticrush

I've driven past this bar for a number of years until last Saturday when I decided to see what all the fuss was about. Well, I wasn't particularly impressed. It takes more than a 100 different types of beer to impress me. The atmosphere sucked. The patrons were cold, aloof and unfriendly. The barmaid didn't even look good through my beer goggles. There were maybe three girls and a hundred guys. I thought I had maybe strayed into an all **male** establishment. Sure it looks cool, nice decor, giant wall of beer etc. but man it just wasn't any fun. I left early. And the UFO "club" is a joke, it should at least give you a discount on beer, but no . . . you get a stupid shirt I woundl't give away and a card that will tell you which beers to try so you can imbibe them all. Well fruity tootie toot ... you can try them all, I like what I like and I don't need 200 choices.

  • Pros: clean
  • Cons: boring, snot nosed patrons, unfriendly atmosphere
