Great authentic place to take a date. Sushi is fresh. People friendly (for most part). Has a burnt firework smell when you first walk in the door that gives you a Japanese teleportation sensation. Try it out, you will not be sorry.

Best Sushi I've Had. Hiragana on the walls by the food items- authentic Japanese foods that you normally cannot find in the area. I first went there for one of my birthdays, had takoyaki and sushi. So far the best I have ever tasted.

Last time I had went there I had curry, and my girlfriend had the shrimp tempura udon. Again, the food was amazing. Never had a problem there at all- and it's always my first choice when wanting Japanese food.

Great. This is not one of those trendy, yuppie hangouts.Be prepaired to be a little cramped, but it is so worth it.The sushi is always fresh and tasty. If your new to sushi, sat is dollar sushi nite, you can try lots of different peices till you find your favs.This is the place sushi people go to eat sushi.

authentic home style Japanese food...around Richardson/Dallas. the place is known for their $1 sushi nights and wendnesday bento box special night

I usually get the seaweed salad, or daikon salad to begin the night...the sushi chef

offers GREAT appetizers when he sees customer that order drinks / sake / beers etc.

I greatly enjoy their yellowtail collard, deep fried geezer, chicken heart kabab and grilled squid

their bento box is good (quality and quantity) on wendnesdays but expect a bit of waiting

the $1 sushi is GREAT! FYI it's smaller than the regular order

staffs are usually quick / friendly...the owner is very nice as sometimes he walks around and say hi

and the sushi chef is very nice, and funny once you get to know him.

a great little place if you live close to forrest / greenville area and enjoy family style Japanese food

The Real Deal. Found Sushi Yama by chance while visiting Dallas. We had no idea what to expect from the nondescript exterior and off the beaten track entrance (you can hardly see the restaurant from Forest Lane). As we were getting out of our car, another couple (speaking Japanese) was also headed to the restaurant - a good sign. Entered the door to a small (cozy or hole in the wall - depending on your perspective) restaurant with about a dozen tables and a small L- shaped sushi bar. It was early Saturday evening and the place was filled with mostly Asian/Japanese customers.

Sushi may be in the restaurant's name, but I suspect the reason so many of the clients were Japanese was because of the "non-sushi" items. Omu rice, tako yaki, Real yakitori, okonomiyaki and a plethora of other items made me feel like I was back in Japan. We had a variety of items (sushi and non-sushi). All were top notch. Sat. & Tues. is $1.00 sushi ($10 min.). Our server was very pleasant. Sushi came out a bit slow (it was peak hour).

If you are looking to eat sushi in a hurry and on the cheap, this may not be your kind of place. If you are looking to spend some time "dining" and enjoying a real Japanese restaurant, Sushi Yama will be for you.
