Tips for Mimi's Wig Boutique

January 27, 2013

In 2004 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to go through treatment. Knowing that Mimi’s had been in the Dallas area for years I decided to go there for my wig. The compassion and understanding I received from Mary and the staff was incredible. They knew I was still trying to get my arms around the diagnosis so after they helped me pick out the one I wanted, they offered to hold it for me until I was ready to wear it. Unfortunately I am one of the few people that did not get all my hair back, I am not complaining though, so I still wear a wig. I am always receiving comments about how great the color or style of my hair looks.

Kim and the staff are just as helpful and wonderful today as they all were in 2004. They go the extra step to call to let me know if they have a new style that I would love. I have worked for the same financial industry for over 35 years and I know the importance of great customer service I consider them a friend more than just a business. One thing I will never forget is the comment my son made to Mary not long after my first purchase, “Thank you for making my mom feel pretty!”

I would never go to any other shop and I would highly recommend Mimi’s.

I want to thank everyone in your salon for the wonderful atmosphere, help and patience you show all of your customers. I've gotten 4 wigs from Mimi's. You are the best and I will definitely refer anyone looking for a wig to visit your salon first.

I just wanted to thank Mimi’s all so much for pretty much changing my life. I have been steadily losing my hair for the last few years and have thought about getting a wig for a long time. I was embarrassed to go to a wig salon because my hair was so thin. (I know that doesn't make any sense!). And I was afraid to just order a wig on the Internet. So I drove over to your salon and drove around the parking lot, then left and drove around some more. Then I came back, got out of the car and walked around for a while. Finally I came in and tried on a couple different wigs and bought one. It looked exactly like my real hair looked many years ago. I forgot the stylists name who helped me that day. She trimmed the bangs at no charge and I wore it home.

My husband and daughter liked it but didn't think my real hair was that bad. My son and his girlfriend, who I met for the first time the next week, had no idea it was a wig, and she is a hairdresser. The next big milestone was wearing it to work. I pretty much stayed in my office all morning and a few people stopped in and said "I like your hair...I'm glad you're letting it get long". One lady said I looked 10 years younger!

The next week I came back to your salon and I got another wig but a different style. Everyone loved that too. I am a much happier person and it just can't be put into words how wonderful it is to go outside and not worry if my scalp is going to show.

I recently found that Mimi's Wig Boutique donated 340 wigs to the American Cancer Society earlier this year. Now this is the kind of company that I want to do business with. It looks like they are the only local Dallas/Ft.Worth wig salon that shows real concern for, and gives back to, the cancer patient. Mimi's is the only wig salon in Texas to do business with.

I found them to be the best, most professional wig salon (out of the 4 I visited) in the D/FW area. I thought I would never be able to find my hair style and color, but I found Mimi's and they had exactly what I was looking for. They not only showed me what I was looking for, but several wigs that very closely matched what I wanted.

Since I know nothing about wigs, they spend a lot of time telling about how to care and wear the wig. Since I did not know about what day-to-day life would be like with no hair, the employees told me about the need for hats, scarves, turbans, and sleep caps. Their selection was wonderful and the hats and turbans will save me a lot of money over purchasing two wigs.

Gee, what a great wig salon. Excellent employees that helped me and their inventory to choose from was extremely large. They have me as a permanent customer.

I joined Citysearch just so I could leave this review as a warning to others. I would NOT recommend Mimi's Wig Boutique to anyone, especially if you or a loved one are looking for a wig due to medical problems. The employees are cold and rude and extremely insensitive to their customers. I took my grandmother here because she has lost a lot of hair due to medical issues. It was a long trip for us, and we unfortunately had to drive over during rush hour because that was the only time I could take her due to my work schedule. Despite the traffic, we made pretty good time and I was so proud of us for getting there by 5:25 PM since the shop doesn't close until 6 PM. My grandmother was nervous and excited and we had such high hopes going in. Well, we walked in the door and were immediately greeted by sneering glares from three employees who were standing around doing absolutely nothing. I asked for some assistance, and one of them said, "We are about to close." I said, "Well, you don't close until 6, right? So we have more than half an hour." She and the other two ladies gave us the death stare. My grandmother and I forged bravely ahead and started looking around since we had taken so much trouble to get there. But it was clear from the start that they had planned on leaving early and resented our presence. My grandmother was very self-conscious as she was trying on wigs and they all stood there just staring at her instead of helping or at least giving her some privacy. I was so angry I was gritting my teeth and clenching my fists. If someone wants to be rude to me, fine. But I can't tolerate someone being rude to my grandmother, who is one of the best people in the world, especially when she is so fragile vulnerable due to her illness. I was so upset that I even called to complain the next day (something I never do), and the woman I spoke to (who was one of the rude employees) was not apologetic in the least. The people who work there have hearts of stone and don't care about helping people. Also, their selection wasn't that great and their prices were high. Thankfully, we ended up finding a wonderful shop called Sylvia's Wig Salon that perfectly met my grandmother's needs. I would highly recommend Sylvia's, certainly over Mimi's. To anyone suffering from illness and hair loss, I hope you find health and peace one day. You deserve kindness and respect during this difficult time--there are places out there that will give you both things, but Mimi's Wig Boutique is NOT one of them.

Excellent services and we saved money.. Mimi's has a huge inventory. Much larger than any other wig salon my wife and I visited. They did not charge us for the alterations we needed and their employees spent about 3 hours with us, telling us how to wear the wig and care for the wig. Because my wife is a medical patient, Mimi's did not charge us for sales tax. We saved money and received more services than the three other wig salons we visited.
