Outstanding Experience at Sullivan's

by IndigoFlint at Citysearch

My friend and I celebrated his birthday at Sullivan's last night. And it truly was a special occasion. I made reservations and highly recommend them. An open area seating arrangement, muted lighting and jazz music greeted us as we entered the restaurant. After being seated, our waiter, Bryan, immediately approached us and explained the "Knockout Martini". He pointed out the large glass jars in the middle of the room where the next batch of infused vodka was being prepared. We both chose the martini and I for one, couldn't have been more pleased with it. Hints of pineapple, vodka and orange all blended together in a light refreshing drink.

The complimentary sourdough bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with creamy, lightly salted butter. They will bring more if you ask.

Sullivan's is running a 3 course special and we chose this route with appetizers. My friend is a French Onion Soup nut and Bryan accommodated his request for the soup as an appetizer. I tried the Seared Ahi Tuna - remarkable! The tuna was high-grade with a spicy crust and seared to perfection complimented with hot mustard, cucumber straws and pickled ginger.

Our salads came out: his - a Caesar and mine the iceberg wedge with blue cheese crumbles. The iceberg lettuce was chilled, crisp and the blue cheese creamy with just a hint of a bite. Tiny diced tomatoes cut the richness of the dressing and the portion size was large enough to share.

We both had ordered med rare filet mignons. I tried the Gorgonzola Garlic Butter on mine and my friend had the Cabernet Goat Cheese Butter. Both butters were rich and tasty. We had chosen skillet mushrooms and green beans as our sides. Both were very good. The steaks were cooked perfectly.

The special includes dessert and we chose the Banana Fosters Bread Pudding and Cheesecake with Strawberries. If you like New York Style Cheesecake (and we do), you'll love the cheesecake. The Bread Pudding was moist and delicious.

As Bryan knew it was my friend's birthday, he asked if he could take our picture. We agreed. He took the picture, got our approval and half-way through the meal gave us picture in a Sullivan's matte. All the servers and the manager had signed it. This was a nice treat and totally unexpected. It really made my friend smile.

Eddie, the manager, stopped by to make sure all was going well and after our meal chatted with us. He told us about the wine dinners the restaurant sponsors and other special events. It was a pleasure chatting with him. Bryan, our server, was outstanding! Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the foods and wines, he even found me a glass of red wine that I liked for my meal.

While we did not sit in the bar, we did look in and it appeared to be relaxed area where you could also eat. There is an outside patio if you were brave enough in this heat.

I recommend Sullivan's and look forward to dining again with them

Total waste of money!

by Elledan at Citysearch

Could not be seated without a reservation although there were plenty of tables the whole time we were there.

We sat in the bar and were served dry-leathery steaks. I ordered medium rare ribeye and my wife medium well Filet Mignon. Neither of us got what we ordered. Hers was very rare and mine was dry with very little pink. The potato was a potato and that's about it.

This was the 2nd worst ribeye I have been served. The worst in Flagstaff at Black Barts. I didn't know you could serve a bad ribeye espcially in Texas. Sullivan's was terrible as was the services.

We were treated like we should be thankful to eat there since we didn't have a reservation. We dropped in at the last minute after a hard day and we wanted to reward ourselves.

We still paid full price for lousy food and service. neither of us finished our meats.

Awesome place!

I dined at Sullivan's on Friday night to celebrate a birthday. What perfect timing because they just started a new promotion for 2 three course dinners for only $69.00! It only had soup or salad, entree with sides and dessert, so we did order the seafood sampler as an appetizer. It had crabmeat, little lobster tails in a cream sauce, oysters and 2 large shrimp. It was a little pricey ($50) but totally worth it. Our server, Chelsea, was so polite and answered all of our questions on point! She even suggested this great bottle of wine that she said was one of her fav's, and I can see why. It was about $80, but tasted like a $200 bottle of cabernet. Overall, a great experience and well worth the money. With all the restaurants that are closing, I can see why Sullivan's is making it!

  • Pros: Awesome food and service

really fresh seafood and steaks

by cookingfresh at Citysearch

My wife and I dined at Sullivan's last Wednesday night and had the tuna appetizer followed by the Seabass and a New York strip all were super. We followed this with a peanut butter and chocolate dessert that was outstanding. Our server was professional and the manager, a red headed lady, was very personable. We will be back and recommend this place to our friends and family.

  • Pros: nice atmosphere, very knowledge server and very fresh food
  • Cons: can' t think of one
