WE LOVE MUGS! – I have used Mugs Bakery for ten years now. I used them for my wedding, my parents 25th anniversary, baby showers and many birthday parties. My family and friends have always asked about the cakes and my grandma LOVES them. Their shop is very small but so peaceful. I like their sandwiches and have never had a soup of theirs that I did not like. My husband stops for breakfast and coffee several times a week. My 3 year old loves to go in and check out the cool cakes they design and grab a cookie. They are AWESOME! Thank you Mugs!
!ATTENTION ECNCT! – I would like to start off AGAIN by saying sorry that we did not meet your excpectations. I would like to correct some of what was said in your review. The problem here is not that we do not take pride in what we do(we have been in business for 16 years, must be doing something right), but that there was miscummunication between us. This is called being human. I asked when you called what it was that I could do to make you happy your replay was you did not know. I offered to stay after hours that friday or open up early the next morning to redecorate your cake. We made plans for you to come at 7 am Saturday, you didn't show up. We take pride in trying to please every customer in every way possible.
HORRIBLE Experience – I was looking for a speciality bakery for a child's cake and a friend recommended this bakery. I read the reviews and thought I'd give this bakery a try. I wanted a speciality cake - something that I couldn't get at a big chain store/bakery. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a horrible experience. I went to the bakery for a consultation and brought along pictures of the theme that I wanted for my son's cake. The girl that I spoke with made notes and I offered to leave the pictures with her if they needed them. She said it wouldn't be necessary that she could always download similar images if needed. I trusted the bakery to do the job as we discussed and had my mother pick up the cake for me since I was tied up in meetings all day. Unfortunately, once I got home and actually saw the cake, I was furious. There was NOTHING on the cake that we had discussed other than the color of the background icing. When I called the bakery to discuss the situation with them, the girl mentioned that when she saw the finished cake that she noticed none of the elements that we discussed were actually ON the cake and had asked the person decorating it about this. She said that the decorator felt that cake would have looked too "crowded". I ordered a half sheet which should have provided plenty of room and the decorator LITERALLY took up 90% of the space writing the largest happy birthday greeting that I have ever seen on a cake. Naturally, anything else would look crowded once you've wasted the entire decorating space on a cake. Honestly there was not ONE SINGLE element that I asked for drawn on the cake. I had provided AT MY OWN EXPENSE small action figures to go on the cake. Again literally all they did was place the action figures on the cake and write happy birthday ridiciously large. I could have bought a better looking cake at WALMART! There was absolutely nothing to distinguish it from a box store cake and, in fact, most of the box store cakes I've seen recently looked a lot better than my cake and probably cost a fraction of the price. Since my mother had picked it up, I did not have time to take it back to the bakery before my son's party. I was stuck with a overpriced, plain-looking cake which did not taste any better than your average run-of-the-mill cake. Buyer beware! I had high hopes that I had found a great little bakery - WRONG! It was horrible customer service - last time I checked the CUSTOMER ordering and PAYING for an item should get what they actually ordered! It's still unbelievable to me that they did not do ANYTHING that I asked. I wished that I could have been able to pick the cake up myself because I would have not paid for it the way it was. When I called them, the only option they offered was for me to bring it back up early the next morning before my son's party to "see what they could do". However, the whole point of picking it up the afternoon before was because I did NOT have time the morning of the party. Ultimately I did not have time the day of the party to try to have the cake fixed and they NEVER called me to follow up or offer any other type of resolution. For the reviewer that complained that another unsatisfied customer must have been TOO picky, maybe that person just expected that their cake would have actually looked as promised (or at the very least slightly resembling what they'd discussed with the bakery). I don't think wanting good customer service and expecting people to actually take pride in their work is being "too picky"!
great place! – Matter of fact, I walked in probably right after this lady was ordering her cake. I just finished smoking and I came right up by her and sat down on the stools next to where she was ordering. I can't believe that she would say something so rude! I am a regular there and would be very disappointed if anything ever happened to mug's. And if this lady was so disappointed with the results, she should have gone somewhere else in the first place rather than walking in off the streets and ordering something. I think I even remember her being WAY WAY WAY too picky and making things just too complicated over a child’s cake! Please people, it was going to be eaten anyways! People make such a big deal out of nothing! I will defend this place because as long as I have known the owners that are dear friends of mine, and have ordered plenty of things from her for the marketing business that I am in, I hope you pray about the gossip that you spread! It will come back to you 10 fold!
AWESOME!!! – It's unique...not your stereotypical restaurant chain. The "goodies" are always fresh and soooo tasty! It's really hard to go in there with a coffee in mind and not come out with a chocolate dipped brownie as well. Highly recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth and a desire to be treated kindly by those that work there.
Amazing Desserts – I have been coming to Mug's for years and I have never had any problems with the food or prices. The food is always fresh and the taste is unique which is un-common these days. From the Chocolate dipped Brownies with a chocolate mousse topping to the Caramel Apple Tart, there is no comparison. The small and simple-ness of the bakery is what makes it perfect for a lunch or for just a sit down for a cup of coffee with a Rocky Road Brownie. Kim and Lainie have always paid attention to the customers needs, ideas or concerns. Kim's knowledge and experience makes her a perfect fit for a customer who is always looking for suggestions. Kim's "annointing" is what has helped Mug's Bakery stay in business for 14 years. Her faithfulness and dedication to her faith and business has made her a success in Roanoke for many years. I will continue to order from her as long as I am here. I highly recommend the Italian Creme' Wedding Cake!!! The cream cheese frosting is the best!!! Kim and Lainie, you guys rock!!!
Greatest Place EVER! – I went to Mugs for a wedding consultation and it was the best experiance of my life. there is nothing more stressful than planning a wedding and making sure everything turns out as you planned. I had a very professional but at the same time, friendly meeting with their wedding consultant. They offered my mother and I lunch which was fantastic. Their chicken salad was the best. After that, we sat down and they designed the wedding cake of my dreams. We did a cake taste testing and let me tell you, Betty Crocker ain't got nothing on these ladies! I ended up having the wedding cake of my dreams and tasted even better. They made everything so easy for me, it was a blessing working with these fine ladies.
They are the sweetest, most professional ladies AND they have the best tasting pasteries EVER!
DO NOT USE! – Long story short-the place smelled like smoke and burnt coffee...asked her to draw me a sketch and she drew a circle on the back of receipt paper...embarrassed and disappointed for my party of 50 guests...the price of the cake changed three times by the time I picked it up...called and left a message for the owner to give her the opportunity to make it right and she has yet to call me. I will never use them again and have spread the word about how bad the cake was and that she is not a concerned business owner when it comes to customer satisfaction and returning customers. I truly dont know how her business has survived so long.
