Parking Nightmare

Took the wife to the west end to celebrate our 35th over the weekend. After leaving the restaurant we found our car booted. It took the attendant over an hour to show up and even after I proved to him we had paid he still insisted I pay the fine for not leaving the receipt in the window. Needless to say we didn't go home in the mood we came with. If we ever go back we will take the bus next time.

Not just for tourists anymore!

What a cry baby below! I live in Dallas and go to the west end every Friday. It?s fun, they always have something going on from carriage rides to fantastic patios and people watching , they have the best western store in the Metroplex called wild bills and a choice of 4 steakhouses. The west end pub even has free appetizers during their great happy hour! Valet parking ids the cheapest I have ever seen at 3 dollars so don?t listen to this person below, it looks like they just want to complain!

What happened; Part 2

In my early 20s, Dallas Alley, West End and Deep Ellum were the happening areas in Dallas. In the summer, bands played a few nights a week, food joints were plentiful and bars were hoppin'. Anyway, a few weeks ago, my wife and I had an opportunity to spend a few days in DFW. Since she had only flown thru DFW, we thought we'd stay downtown and hang out in the local areas.

What a disappointment! Nothing is left in Dallas Alley and Deep Ellum is half empty.

Luckily, Hootrs and the new House of Blues and Dick's Last Resort are on the edge of West End.

After speaking w/one of the locals @ HoB, we found out that there was questionable people, homeless and panhandlers starting up over the last few years in the area. By the time the business owners and city council decided to act, people looking to party, visit the city and with money, went elsewhere.

I guess the BASS Brothers cashed in by renovating downtown Fort Worth. The saddest thing to me was that the old Grand Hotel, which took in about a city block and who knows how many stories was boarded up and probably housed the majority of the homeless in downtown.

So next time, our money and tme will be spent in the Fort Worth area.

• Pros: Hotel Indigo was worth the money.
• Cons: Too many homeless, empty shops and run down buildings.

What Happened????

I always remembered the West End as someplace to go and see. An actual site. Recently when i stopped by i was sadly disappointed. Half the shops are closed down. The movie theater is gone. There was maybe 4 people there. The only thing worth making the trip for is the antique store that is in the basement where the old arcade used to be. If you are looking for something from your childhood or just decorations for around the house, they will have it.

• Pros: Antique Store, No Crowd
• Cons: Most shops closed down, no atmosphere

This historic downtown district is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

Market Place - How much longer?

We've watched Market Place in a death spiral for some time now. It's a great facility but the building management's decision to close at 6 p.m. Sunday night when throngs of people were out and about to attend the July 3 "Dallas Booms" event downtown points out again too clearly that things have gone terribly wrong here.

• Pros: location, historic building, plaza entertainment
• Cons: mostly vacant, tenants vanished, No food venue
