Quality service dependent on volume of customers
by fecker
Location excellent service was good at start of meal but declined as the place filled up. Food was average, dishes of note were lamb tartines and mussels. As a repeat customer I was disappointed.
- Pros: Location,ambience
- Cons: disappoiniting service and main course
AMAZING Cuisine
by LakewoodLady
Although I agree that the service is slow, it is totally worth your time. The food is absolutely delicious, and I have been in love with this place ever since my first visit last month. My table was outside and very romantic, despite being elbow-to-elbow with other tables...you'll find some of the typical Dallas weirdos having their usual conversations, but all that blends into the background once you start with the appetizer and a nice glass of red wine.
If you've never had duck and always wanted to try , this is the place to go! The only thing I wish they had on the menu but didn't was traditional flourless chocolate cake.
The mushroom soup is to die for, my husband normally hates mushrooms but practically licked the bowl clean. I am using it this year in my green bean casserole to impress the relatives.
Happy Eating!!!
- Pros: Food, Food, Food!!!
- Cons: Slow Service
Used to be good but not anymore...Disappointed
by LocalTraveler
The Grape claims to change their menu frequently but I haven't seen a change for over a year. I guess the change is putting a new header on the menu Fall 2008 or Spring 09. The red wine is warm and served at around 80 degrees, they should know better. The female owner was overheard the whole evening talking about staffing issues and then on the telephone in the middle of the dining area. Why not talk in the back...i dont want to hear it. The tall dark hair waitress was a slow and bordering on rude. Its such a dissappointment that this restaurant has gone down hill so fast.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Service and Wine
Scruptious food... dissapointing delivery... needs to be "dinged" a couple stars
by bricemcbeth
The food is good... no doubt (very good). Very unique and very french... typically foodie place that is normally right up my alley. Unfortunately for my experience, The Grape was was a dud. Service was ssssllooooow... water and wine glasses stayed empty for 2 courses... hellooooo!?!? I definitely enjoyed hearing the table next to us talk about "15 pound curl ups" for 45 minutes... certainly more interesting than what I had to say to my spouse that night. I didn't like their wallpaper brick murals, anyway... I should have ordered this three course, four star meal "to go". I'm trying to be fair here because I know this is supposed to be a great Dallas restaurant... but I just absolutely didn't "feel the love"! Zzzzz... should have spent that $100 on a bottle of wine and a pizza.
- Pros: Can cook the dang heck out of veal with gnocchi... and Muchroom soop - wow!
- Cons: Service, Elbow Room, Cheesy Fake Murals, Windy AC, SLOW!!
new owners
by eggfuyoung
The Grape has been closed for lunch since September, when the new owners took over. The old management and it's mentality are gone. The new owners have worked fervently to return this gem to it's original luster. If you have not visited since the Luschers have taken the keys, you are missing out on one of Dallas' best restaurants. Leave them a message, I bet they will call you back...
Dissapointing, Customer service very bad
by kn005
I dined here for lunch a few times. A little pricy, but the food is ok. It is fairly near where I work. The service is slow, and the last time I was there they charged me TWICE for my meal. I called and left several messages for the manager, and even sent a few emails. NO ONE has responded. My advice to you...If you do decide to dine here, BRING CASH, otherwise you may be ripped off, and getting someone to call you back is impossible.
- Cons: supposedly romantic, but all the tables are nearly on top of one another. I do not consider a romantic dinner to be on top of the couple eating next to me.
Great Atmosphere, Great Taste, Great Date!
by aaswitzer
My girlfriend and I went here tonight for dinner on our 1 year anniversary. We loved it! It has a great atmosphere, which is one of the things it is well known for. Very nice if you're looking for a combination of romantic, quaint and still somewhat casual. A very good place for fish! We had calamari for an appetizer. The texture was wonderful and it comes with a very good spicy (cayenne?) sweet and sour sauce. I had the monkfish and she had the kona kampachi, both excellent. Personally, my favorite touch was the macadamian nut brittle that came on the creme brulee. 5 stars!
Awesome mushroom soup

It's a shame that the transition of new ownership has cast a negative on The Grape. I've been going to the grape for the past 12 years and have always considered it a hands down favorite. I have eaten there since the ownership has changed and found Brian and Courtney to be extremely eager to "keep up the pace". The food was awesome, the service was not at all what I've read in reviews. We felt appreciated as patrons and well served as we enjoyed just another fabulous meal at The Grape. For you nay-sayers....give it a chance to transition. Otherwise, YOU lose.
- Pros: Lots of wines by-the-glass
- Cons: High traffic on Greenville Ave.
New ownership
by gubbins1234
After reading the most recent review, in which someone awarded my favorite restaurant a pathetic "one star" rating, I felt the need to come in here and write my own review.
The Grape has VERY RECENTLY (right at the time of the previous review) had an ownership change, and is now owned by a chef who used to work at the Grape a couple of years ago. So that would explain the "low inventory" and the "slow service". DO NOT JUDGE THIS RESTAURANT BY THIS EXPERIENCE. My wife and I have been to the Grape maybe 100 times over the past few years, and it is by far our favorite restaurant. We have been back since the new ownership change (in the last couple of weeks), and although they are still working out the kinks, the food was excellent. The sauteed scallop entree I had was certainly the best scallop entree I have ever had at the Grape, even if the service was slower than usual. Give them a break, folks, it takes more than a few days to get up to speed after such a change. New owners, new Chef, AND new manager!
- Pros: Ambience
- Cons: Parking
What a disappointment...
by immaa
We have been looking forward to visiting The Grape for some time now. After reading about it here and on Zagat we were excited to try a Dallas institution. Boy -- were we disappointed. We had 8:30 reservations and did not get seated until 9:30. We were stuck in a table in between two other tables with one inch on all sides of us. I don't understand how this place can be considered "romantic".
Our order came out wrong, nobody in our party of 6 was happy with the meal. They were ?low on inventory? of wine, so there were very few options to choose from. I would estimate ? of the wine list was out of stock. There was no one there who could answer any questions about the few choices of wine that they did have, so we were on our own to choose from the limited selection. The wait staff was short so they had brought in staff that did not normally work there and could not answer questions about the menu or the vino. For a place called ?The Grape?, you would think wine would be a focus? it was not.
The management at the Grape did credit us for a round of drinks and appetizers, but at the end of the day, we were extremely disappointed. Hopefully this was an aberration, but let it be known that we won't be going back to find out.
