Everything was just perfect!

by noname815

The Mercury did an amazing job with both food and service when my husband and I went. When I have family or friends in town that is where I take them. It's semi-expensive but not OVER the top and they have a GREAT wine selection. I recommend this place! Their catering is amazing. Hands down the best cater-food I have ever experienced.

  • Pros: Service and food are wonderful.
  • Cons: In a weird shopping mall strip.

Good food, disappointing service

by ajdrake

The food and wine list both are good, but don't count on the service staff to come through for you. I made a reservation at Mercury Grill and noted that my wife and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. I asked for some small remembrance to help us celebrate during our meal like "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate sauce on a dessert plate. I was assured it would be handled. I asked if I needed to remind them when I arrived and was told no...it would be handled. It wasn't handled. Well, at least I got an okay meal that not-too-busy Tuesday evening and, most importantly, I have a great wife of now more than 20 years. In the grand scheme, life really is very good. However, we won't be returning to the Mercury. There are too many other GREAT restaurants in our area (like the Cafe on the Green at the Four Seasons in Irving, which offers food and service that always seem to be trying to surpass each other in quality).

  • Pros: Solid menu and wine list
  • Cons: Forgetful service

Used to be Sublime, now AVERAGE

Let me just say that when Mercury first came on the scene, their food was what you want in a fine dining restaurant - different, delicious and like nothing you had ever tasted. Now it is the place that inexplicably pops into your head when nobody knows where to go and you are trying to think of a restaurant. I went here about three months ago for dinner, can't even remember what I had, yeah it was that good. I do know we had reservations and by the time I got to the restaurant my Aunt was mad because she and my uncle had been waiting 10 minutes already. When we were finally seated we had our meal and the waitress was almost perfect, even putting up with my grumpy relatives. This weekend, my aunt asked me to lunch and when I said I couldn't think of anything between us, she suggested Mercury Grill. I asked her if we didn't have a bad experience there last time we went and she said she thought we like it. So I pretended I was thinking of somewhere else . We met for lunch. I had the smoked salmon, which was fine and the shrimp cocktail, 4 small shrimp with cocktail sauce and a dollop of guacamole, also fine. My aunt got their kalamata olive bread salad which she like and the cream of mushroom soup, which tasted like salted half and half heated with mushroom puree. Average meal, not average prices. I probably wouldn't even care to write about one more average, overrated Dallas restaurant if not for the fact that I knew what this place used to be like. Downgrade!

  • Pros: atmosphere, location
  • Cons: average food, relatively high prices, service ranging from poor to spectacular

It's ok

by chicagotodallas

Went for a friend's bday dinner and ordered their fillet. The steak was good but, not great. For $30+ I'd expect a larger portion than something that could fit in the palm of my hand. I was able to try a couple friend's other entrees (chicken and salmon) and they were good but, again...I'm not crazy about the portions. Guess I'm still used to the Chicago Italian restaurants where $15 to $20 gets you enough food for 2 extra meals (go to Rosebuds if you're traveling to Chicago area!!!). Our waiter must have been new...he seemed nervous. I liked the part where he said "The hot soup that is on special...is prepared hot and very tastey." I guess if you feel like eating an $80 meal and want just average to above average food, go here....or if you like $6 mac n cheese. Move over Kraft. I'd recommend going to Capital Grille instead.

  • Pros: Romantic setting, comparably good food
  • Cons: Pricey for what you get, not much selection.

North Dallas restaurant tucked in a strip center houses renowned chef Chris Ward and caters to an upscale clientele.

In Short
Reports of Chef Chris Ward being a finalist for White House chef come as no surprise to loyal patrons. This dimly lit, sleek, black-and-taupe foodie favorite offers simple continental cuisine with a few surprise twists. Start with the braised duck confit on a bed of fois gras whipped potatoes. For an entree, try the beef fillet in truffle sauce. The molten chocolate cake is a sweet ending to a decadent meal.
