WAY OVER PRICED

by justinjustinjustin

I've been to 90% of the upscale restaraunts in the DFW area and this was the first place I've been to where I felt like I'd been ripped off. Ordered the $17 "hot rock" appetizer with Kobe Beef-it tasted ok and was a barely enough to feed 2 and definitely not worth $17. Our entrees included the $26 Salmon which was barely enough to feed my girlfriend who doesn't eat much anyways while I ordered the $24 Sea Bass-let me say this; the sea bass meal which included an awful asian salad and rice was the total size of my fist. The wine was decent which is the only ok thing I can say and the total bill came out to $96. We left dissapointed and still hungry. GO TO SAMBUKAS- It's just as expensive, but definitely WORTH it. Try the Sea Bass there, it'll melt in your mouth and you'll be thinking about it for days..seriously.

  • Pros: Good staff, nice ambiance
  • Cons: Everything else

NICE

by clintmosaic

Went to eat there last week. Food was amazing and the waiter was really good. He told us they had a bar upstairs. Went and did that and the bartender (sarah) made a point to remember our names and drinks. Went back a few nights later and she remember our names and poured the drinks we like without even having to ask. Can't wait for summer at this place, looks like the outside deck area will be great.

  • Pros: ambience, food, drinks, clientel, service
  • Cons: kind of confusing for first timers

Good food, cool decor, service was a mixed bag

by teekhe

My friend and I had reservations on a weekday evening during Restaurant Week. We were seated promptly. We chose to go with the wine pairings and added a fourth course to the standard 3 course Menu. The food was excellent and the wine pairings were quite good. I particularly loved the sushi appetizer. The only complaint is that the wine pairing with the main entree did not arrive with the main entree. It took us mentioning it to 3 waiters before we finally got the pairings. On the bright side, the restaurant comped us for the wine pairings without us having to ask them.

Overall it seems our experience was better than those of the last few reviewers. I hope Fuse is on an upswing.

  • Pros: Tasty food, good wines, cool decor, nice patio
  • Cons: Service can miss on occasion, can get expensive

Poor Management

by phnman

We had reservations at Fuse tonight for 14 at 8:30. Our entire party was at the restaurant by 8:20. We were bumped by another table of 14 out of an inside table and seated on the patio ( in the Texas heat) at 9:05. After placing our orders we were informed that the kitchen was backed up and our meals would be delayed. We complained to management about our problems (so far) with our visit, and were informed that we should have known better than to make a reservation for 14, at 8:30, on a Saturday night. Our food finally started arriving at about 10pm.

The volcano roll was quite bland, and the scallops were overcooked. The downtown roll had the faintest hint of soap (yuck). The Fuse roll is an obvious rip off of the Julie roll at Blue Fish (which is SO much better). The tornado roll is quite bland, and while the Thai roll was the best of what I ordered, the banana overpowers all of the other flavors. All of the rolls were poorly made, and came undone when picking them up.

We had a party of 18 at Nick's seafood in Addison last weekend, and had no problem getting in. We had better food, service, and a better time than this weekend.

People in Dallas have too many choices for a restaurant to perform this poorly and get away with it. If you are going to spend as much as we did for dinner, I recommend that you try Perry's, Bob's, Blue Fish, The Grape, Sushi Zushi, or Abacus.

  • Pros: Great space, location
  • Cons: Average food for above average price, poor management

Overpriced!

by doomius

Went on a Saturday night, maybe that was the first mistake.

Upon entering, I found the atmosphere a tad too trendy. I know they are trying to revitalize the downtown area, but it just had an air of pretentiousness that I found laughable.

I ordered a mojito, which I must say I have had better at less price. Service was quick to order drinks, I will commend them for that.

Ordered the edamame and calamari for appetizers. The edamame was definitely unique with a chili powder glaze which I found pleasant, the calamari was good however nothing out of the ordinary.

Entree choices included the volcano roll which is basically a California roll topped with scallops and drenched in a mild spicy sauce which I thought was quite good. The spicy tuna rolls and California rolls were mediocre at best!

The oddest thing about Fuse were the restrooms, I would expect an establishment such as this to have separate restrooms for male and female patrons. Fuse however has a unisex restroom which comprises of 4 stalls and 4 urinals tucked away in a corner which I found a bit awkward.

The most annoying part of the night was that they had a DJ spinning repetitive techno music...if you can call it that. He reminded me of Bruce McCullough?s character from Kids in the Hall, "He's Hip, He's Cool, He's 45!"

Bottom line, trendy nightspot that caters to young twenty-something singles that don't care about dropping money on overpriced mediocre meals!

  • Pros: Edamame and Volcano Rolls were tasty!
  • Cons: Everything else was mediocre!

Experience OK. Good, Pricey food. Weird restrooms.

by cgcct

The food was very good, but very overpriced. The front of the house person was not so friendly. I also feel that customers should not have to pay for valet when attending a restaurant. This restaurant does not validate parking. The restrooms were BIZARRE. It is a unisex restroom with 4 stalls, and urinals. The entire area is SO dark, you can barely see the lock on the stall door, and my friend actually MISSED the lock and a MAN walked in on her. Now it's one thing for a woman to walk in on another woman. And I understand it technically was her fault about the lock, but why not eliminate this possibility by having male and female bathrooms???!!!

  • Pros: good food, atmosphere
  • Cons: Too pricey, bad restrooms

mediocre at best.

by redrunner7

went there the other night and it was DEAD. one of like 2 tables in the entire place. service was ok, just felt distant though everything was timed well. the food was mediocre, the only thing we really enjoyed was the potsticker dumplings. our entrees lacked any really rememorable taste, and everything just tasted plain. dessert was ok, though the french toast seemed to be over rated. also the interior look woren and the little soy sauce bowls were beat up and needed to be thrown away.

  • Pros: valet, door staff
  • Cons: food, no people there

Amazing Dining Experience

by john0521

One of the best dining experiences I have had in Dallas, the food is creative, seasonal and by no means boring. The sushi was original try the Fuse Roll, probably the best sushi roll ive ever had. Hawaiian Snapper melted in my mouth and the Carmelized Banana French Toast was to die for. I highly recommend and will be back very soon and bringing friends

  • Pros: Very Creative Food
  • Cons: Valet Parking, Some Street Parking

Good Volcano Role - everything else was average

by mls1221

Fuse is near my work and I enjoy taking co workers if they enjoy sushi but that is it. The rest of the menu is bland but the Volcano roll is quite good. The restaurant is very attractive and the staff is fine, but only go for the Volcano roll.

  • Pros: Great volano role!
  • Cons: Rest of the menu is so-so.
