I went there last thursday the bartender was rude, they do have a problem with giving people water and ice at the bar. I saw a man ask for some water and the bartender slammed the cup on the bar and threw ice everywhere but the glass. To top it off, the bartender thought I was drunk and tried to keep 11 dollars change from a 20 when my order was only 8 dollars.I;ve been here 6 times in the past month and tried almost each day of the week I'd advice people not to go on wednesdays and thursdays early because the bartender is out to get you.
- Pros: good looking chicks
- Cons: bad service early wednesdays and thursdays
Great place to get sand in your face!
by tanorgray
I play volleyball here in a league and all of my friends love it just as much as I do. They have a lot of flat screen TV's inside to watch the game. Great service by the pool and on the volleyball courts. It is a shirt is optional, go swimming, get your hands in the sand, fun place to be. You can wear your swimsuit and feel right at home. In fact, most of the waitresses wear bikini tops in the summer. To add to the things to do, they have a pool table and some very funny kareoke. A great place to spend a summer day on the weekend.
- Pros: Great outdoor drink service, fun atmosphere, great activities, friendly people.
Love the people, love the environment

I met some old friends that i hadn't seen in years here on a Thursday night. I planned the evening and though i had never been to this place, it seemed like a good concept and a place where we could just have fun. I'm assuming there was only one waitress on for most of the night (plus the bartender) since she was the only one helping out most of the people there (which might explain some of the problems). Still when we were her only (at least visable) table, we waited 10 minutes for drink refills and would have to get her attention to get more. Once my boyfriend went through 2 soda refills, he never got another one. Later when we asked for more water, she pointed to a water cooler and said there was water in there!
I just had a burger, my boyfriend had the fajitas and both of us have had better (i've had a better burger from mcdonalds!) When the checks arrived, we noticed there was 18% gratuity added. it did state on the menu that gratuity was added for 7+ and there was 7 of us, my problem was with the fact that only 5 of us ate! the other two just had water, not even any drinks! I wait tables, and where i work, 7 people have to be EATING to add gratuity. Since I'm a waitress and know how it feels, so for good service i always leave at least 20%, but having to ask for everything we needed, getting our own waters and not really being paid attention to, i don't think she even deserved the 18%. To add on to our bad experience, when she came back with change for the people that paid with cash, she didn't give them back their coin change and didn't even bother to ask if they wanted it. In total, it was probably another $1.50-$2, not much, but still money that she took that we didn't feel belonged to her.
i wish that this place was better because it could be really awesome, but without good service or good food, i wouldn't go back here again. I would say maybe just for some drinks, but there are better bars all over dallas!
- Pros: maybe the beach volleyball but not to eat/drink
- Cons: service and food
Dinner date ... don't do it, but a summer day may have potential
by ReliableCritic
My aunt (young aunt) came into town and we had been wanting to try out the Back Yard Beach Bar so we decided to take her. Yikes ... how embarrassing!!! It was not at all what we had expected. Like the previous review stated, it was dark, dirty and we did not receive anything that even slightly resembled a warm welcome. We could not tell if they served food or not, but if so there was no way that we would have stayed to eat. If it claims to be smoke free, that claim is false. There was a very strong smoke stench throughout the establishment.
That being said, the outside looked like it had the potential for being a college party hang out during warm weather. I could definitely see college students having fun near the volleyball courts outside in the summertime. So, I would not completely write it off. I would just think twice about going there at night. If you are hungry I would recommend eating before you arrive, and if you are into volleyball I would give it a try on a warm summer day. Just go with low expectations and you may not be disappointed.
Major Dingy Dissapointment

After reading the one other review for this place i was excited to go, thinking they had a decent menu and i believe even CEVICHE was mentioned in the last review. What a joke. My girl friend wanted me to dress up with her as in heels and a dress, thankfully i changed my mind because of the weather. Let me tell you this place IS NOT a dress wearing place, unless you want to have to fumigate it afterward. I will be fair though my friends told me this was a smoke free enviorment, so that is my fault i misunderstood. Although the outside is not at all what the inside looks like, upon walking in I was frowned at by a very disgruntled waitress. Who demanded my I.D. and then looked at me like she didn't belive me. (i do look young). I was not presented any menus, in fact i had no clue they served food. Not that i would want to eat food in a trashy place like that i don't think i could of even tasted it due to the smoke. The place looked like there was a inch of dust all over everything, very dark and uninviting. I was very disspionted, maybe in the summer when you can play volleyball outdoors it would be different, but the staff has a big unfriendly vibe. I did not want to ask for anything from them because they were just so stand-offish. So if you love to smell like an old ashtray and not be greeted by anyone friendly this is the place for you!
- Pros: I guess volleyball might be fun in summer
- Cons: Well the place looked dirty and the waitresses were rude
Exceptional Oysters and Ceviche
by woodensong
During a recent recording session at Warm Weather Music Headquarters, my producer, "Toucan Don" turned me on to The Backyard Beach Bar (TBYBB) and I was totally blown away. I found the warm and homey atmosphere with loads of healthy, attractive folks frolicking around the pool and volleyball areas made for a very relaxed dining experience. An excellent wait staff and most excellent food. We opted for a quick round of really fresh oysters on the half shell, a ceviche that was as good as I have encountered anywhere in Central or South America, and a couple of cold Blue Moon's, the perfect compliment to any meal! This was a very enjoyable and affordable meal and the pleasant overall experience, set the stage for our sunset photo shoot at a nearby White Rock Lake marina. The photo's were exceptional and will soon grace the cover of my latest independent CD, "Six String Sailor." I only wish I'd seized the opportunity to grab a few pictures of "TBYBB" to include inside the CD cover, since it set the stage for our photo shoot. I will definitely take my camera next time I drop by "TBYBB." VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thanks for everything y'all...

- Pros: everything was great
- Cons: no complaints
The White Rock Lake-area restaurant and bar draws sports fans; the outdoor sand and water volleyball courts draw players.

In Short
The casual restaurant and bar serves typical pub-grub fare like the "Damn Good Burger" and fish-and-chips. But the menu is complemented with oysters on the half shell, seviche, steaks, and salmon. The bar features four flat-screen TVs for sports fans. Outside, there are two sand volleyball courts and a pool, along with several patio areas where spectators can watch the action.
